Man, what is it with Korean boys and those gay triangular sideburns that seem to be the rage. They look like they should be prancing around Middle Earth or something. If that is supposed to make you look cool...yikes. |

I like asian haircuts, they're funky. They remind me of characters from anime cartoons and such. i get a good chuckle out of it. |

A lot of Korean guys can't grow real sideburns. The Elfen look is just the hair on the side of their head grown longer to look like sideburns.
I'm one of the few that CAN grow real nice sideburns. James Dean style. I always get Korean guys tell me that they wish they could grow sideburns. |

A K girl once told me these sideburns are to frame the face, i.e., make the face smaller and rounder (i.e., look 'cute'). Cute is really big here. The boys have to look effeminate - or the girls think they are like their soju-drinking, wife-beating fathers/male relations.
If you try and discuss why Western men don't want to looke 'cute' (gay), K's just look bewildered. |

Exactly. Why we as Westerners cultivate something on our face that grows wild on our ass is beyond me. |

Hapki,
Who are you to judge?
I cultivate both areas quite well and have a veritable cornucopia of art on both ends...initials, images and all!

Rock n f'n roll...The soju-drinking wife-beaters with the high-over-the-ears bowl cuts have fun with the chicks in parlors and anmas, whereas the cute boyfriends buy them extravagent things with their parents' money but only get to have fun with their guy friends and video games. |

Ah, so that explains it. Thanks. Sometimes, being in Korea is like being a cultural anthropologist from Mars.
I've heard it said that in China, Korea is referred to as "The Country of One Haircut." I wonder if it's true. Could somebody please page Swiss James? And even if they do say that, I think it's unfair. There are two hairstyles here: one for ajeoshi-age men, and one for the younger ones. |

I think the haircut makes them look like Romulons (spelling?) from Star Trek. The part about framing their face is true I think. Koreans are made fun of by other Asians as having the biggest heads in Asia. Hence the term "bucketheads" or "shovelheads".
Even Korean friends have told me that. It makes their faces look smaller apparently. |

A Korean barber gave me those once. I said, "What is this? The Legend of Zelda?" but the joke was lost on him. I had him chop them off. It was, otherwise, the best haircut I've ever gotten. |

That's the one! I never managed to collect all the triangles, by the way. |
