Here's an article about O'Reilly's high level of professionalism that I posted earlier (http://www.slate.com/default.aspx?id=3944&qt=o%27reilly&submit.x=16&submit.y=16) This is my favorite example of O'Reilly's interviewing style:

To an Anti-War Protester Whose Father Died on 9/11
O'Reilly: "Shut up. Shut up."
Jeremy Glick: "Oh, please don't tell me to shut up."
O'Reilly: "As respectas respectin respect for your father, who was a Port Authority worker, a fine American, who got killed unnecessarily by barbarians"
Glick: "By radical extremists who were trained by this government"
O'Reilly: "Out of respect for him"
Glick: "not the people of America."
O'Reilly: "I'm not going to"
Glick: "the people of the ruling class, the small minority."
O'Reilly: "Cut his mic. I'm not going to dress you down anymore, out of respect for your father. We will be back in a moment with more of The Factor."
Glick: "That means we're done?"
O'Reilly: "We're done."
Feb. 4, 2003

Maybe Glick is a a bit of a douche, but O'Reilly (like most hacks) wants these people on his show. It's Hack Journalism 101- find someone who represents the most belligerent extreme of any viewpoint and get into a shouting match with him/her.

No, I was just hoping to see an episode of him getting after someone. I'll try and find that one with ...Geraldo.

Sorry, I think O'reilly is one of the best out there. So what if he lost his cool a couple of times, as you say. I've seen him get rather punchy with a couple of people. The first, was when he was interviewing a guy who was head of the 9/11 conspiracy theorist group, and Bill just told him that he was a wacko (really, if it were true, don't you think ALL of the democrats, the New York Times, Boston Globe, Houston Chronicle, would have blown that wide open?).

The other time was when he interviewed some hispanic lady whose justification for NOT having boarder security was her saying "Well, 100's of years ago, indigenous people wandered from land to land...and uh, we should do the same thing". After NOT answering his questions, and giving ANY intelligent answer, he got a little jabby with her.

But, I've never seen him down and out yell at someone. And, if he did. who cares? It is not an ongoing thing. Granted, it does not make him look to good, but honestly...that has nothing to do with what he reports.

It does not seem to be there.

Besides, if you use any site dedicated to hat/slander/demonize the person in question, you WILL find something. What you are talking about is small taters, man.

Again, where is the COMPLETE transcript? Did I miss it?

Like I said, I think O'Reilly is obviously an intelligent guy and could be an excellent journalist. He's not just a cheap hack. But does that make him even worse? Isn't purposefully dumbing down his message and debating like some drunk in a bar worse when you consider how much better he could probably do?

Here's the video of the segment I posted about. He tells him to "Shut up" and orders someone to cut his mic around the 3:20 mark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BAFb97L3KU

Ahhh.......OK.

Well, I can see where the kid was coming from. However, I think he was infact a little misguided, and Oreilly was calling him on it. The United States government (though had its hand in the cookie jar) was training the enemy to attack us, and Oreilly was trying to get that out.

Anyway, I've been watching quite a few clips today with him....versus........Donahue(Donohue?)...Geraldo (that guy drives me crazy, and is a nut)...

I see were Oreilly is coming from, and I like the fact that he does get riled up at times.

(Of course, he has made some mistakes........I'll give ya'll that.......the P.O.W. massacare in Belguim during WW2...yikes).

Geraldo.......quite the scrub...I also like how he avoids the real issue
(so, as foreigners here in Korea, if we did the same thing, should we be deported). This actually a pretty good one.

It is an ongoing thing, and it does mean that he is not to be taken seriously as a journalist. Its just completely unprofessional and fails to meet the required standard for serious journalism. You dont get other top journos doing that. It comes across as highly partial and immature.

Fair enough, but you are not going to change my opinion. I pisses a lot of people off, and ONE of those reasons is that he calls certain folks on their B.S.

shall i start from the beginning?

- the No Spin Zone
- "phuck off..we are closing our boarder to you courtesy of a nice, big, fat wall. And, if you still persist on coming over illegaly, you will run the risk of getting shot".
- the ones that hire them are just as guilty, if not more so.
- He is pretty balanced with what he reports
-I assume you don't know the difference betwee crap versus objective journalism? Have you even watched Oreilly?
- to call him a propaganda machine? You guys need to lay off the CNN/BBC/Boston Globe/NY Times, and all the other liberal brain garbage.
- I have not seen ANY O'reilly show where he has not backed up EVERYTHING he has reported.
- He provides accrurate and objective journalism.
- Either you don't watch his show, don't pay attention when he is providing his facts to back up his reporting, or just are on the far left liberal bandwagon.
- Yes, I do feel that fox is better because of their balanced reporting.
- O'Reilly puts together (and Fox) a much more balanced, objective report of the news and what is going on. He questions BOTH sides of the spectrum.
- the far left dingleberries hate him because he brings forth attention to what they are doing, and how they are doing it.
- you have proven my point of anyone that does not agree with the far left, are indeed targeted for insultsYou immediately jumped on the assumption that anyone who watches FOX is a "neo con".
- the fact that the United States is pretty much the only country that does take a stance on some things
- that would happen if right wing radicals were behind the influence...but they are not.
- I think that Fox is in the middle in regards to what they report.
- Well, based on that it is fair to assume that far left liberals feel that ANYONE or ANYTHING that is not toally in line with what THEY believe is a "neo con"?
- Seems pretty balanced to me...........
- I feel that O'reilly's agenda is to point out the b.s. that you are being feed by the other news agencies.
- I think O'reilly is one of the best out there.
- I think he was infact a little misguided, and Oreilly was calling him on it.

Just because the interviewee says something idiotic does mean that the journalist is allowed to do the same, they are held to different standards, it's not tit for tat in that regard. You don't get to abuse, interrupt, shout at, put down, or otherwise harass, bully, or show blatant disrespect for the interviewee just because you disagree with them. That is just not serious professional journalism. Nor do you cut someone's mic, or call anyone who disagrees with you a "pinhead", not when you are a serious professional journalist. Bill is a "pundit" with his own tv show. I don't think he's even pretending to be a journalist at this stage. You would never catch Ed Bradley behaving like that.
