I rented a place when I was a tourist, I didn't show any identification at all, just handed over the money. Whether or not this is illegal though, I don't know.
However, I negotiated a deal of not paying any key money and I just continue to pay six months rent in advance. If you need to front up key money, things might be different. I'd try not to pay key money if you can help it. I had a friend who lost 12 million in key money because his landlord claimed bankruptcy. |
