|
|
I got this in a group email:
- There has been increased vacation time (2 full calendar weeks in the
summer, 3 full calendar weeks in the winter, and an extra 2 calendar weeks
if you renew for another year). The 2 extra weeks for renewing must be
taken just prior to the beginning of your new contract.
- Also, there has been a clause put in about "special leave" that
stipulates paid time off if you need to go to your home country for some
reason. These will be taken on a case by case basis with the Privincial
Office of Education (POE) when the need arises.
- A new "two year" contract option. Basically, you get the same benefits
as the one year (Pension, Severance) for each year of the contract, but
there is an extra 1,000,000 Won bonus at the end of the two years. Also,
you have the option of ending the contract after one year with absolutly no
penalties (i.e. you still get severence and pension for the first year).
So, if you sign a 2 year contract, and if you stay for the full 2 years,
then you get an extra million won for it.
- A new "1++ level" for teachers that qualify. This includes a pay raise
of some kind, but the details are still unclear. |

I can verify that the changes on the new EPIK contract are as the first poster outlined. My liason teacher showed me a copy yesterday, and said that they should be sent out to the re-signing teachers (to sign) by next week... at least in Gangwondo. Can't say about other provinces, but at least you know now that the info is confirmed and can therefore begin rumination about re-signing.... |

Wondering if this is a way for them to avoid paying you the end-of-contract airfare. I got a 2 million won airfaire reimbursment at the end of my last contract. Is there any mention of airfare payment after the first year of a two year contract? |

Is english not considered an accurate nor legal representation of the agreement still? Just there for "convenience purposes"? How about the multiple locations clause? I refused to sign 2007 for these and other insulting reasons. |

Does it say extra classes will be paid at 20,000 won per class and non-teaching overtime will be paid at 6,000 won per hour?
If so, anyone thinking about signing should make sure those numbers read 50,000 and 30,000. |

Is this new contract only available for teachers who are re-signing or is it for newbies in EPIK too? I haven't signed my contract yet and it looks to be the old version from Gangwondo. |

You'll get the new version before you begin -- check with your recruiter.
Vacation clause applies to newbies but the 2-year option is for renewers only.
The contract is specific to the Gangwondo program. |

So wait your saying that if i renew I get the two year option but not the vacation? The OP mentioned he got this from EPIK not a specific province.. Just looking for some clarity here. Maybe I should just fire off an email to EPIK and see if they will give me the official version... |
