In simple language, for its intended audience:
Genital Mutilation is terrible. Even when it happens to women who are not white. In fact, it is just as terrible when it happens to women who are not white, as it is when it happens to women who are. I do not agree to white or brown people performing it on either white or brown women. I do not agree that it is a good thing, whether you are christian, muslim or animist.
It's really not on, in my opinion. I would like to see it stamped out forever.

I'm against it. I try to be kind to genitalia whenever I'm around them ...
Just curious, did you think someone would come around and try to defend doing lifelong damage to this part of a person's body?
Um, you ARE talking about FEMALE genital mutilation, right? Cuz there was another thread a while ago about circumcision, and that's probably a completely different issue, not what you were talkin' about ... right?
Anyway, the clitoris is a beautiful, wonderful part of existence for both women and the men who love them. Don't do bad things to it unless you wanna make The Bobster angry with you. I mean that. I'll go all Chuck Norris on your ass if you even try it.

I only know of it in Northern Africa and parts of the Middle East.
Which white women does it happen to that you are referring to? |

Obviously female and male circumcision is different. I doubt ANYONE on here would try to justify female circumcision. Male circumcision obviously does not involve the removal of the head of the *beep* (ouch) which is what removing the clitoris amounts to.
Motivation behind the two procedures are also as different as night and day as far as I know. Doesn't female circumcision aim to deny the woman the pleasures of sex so that she will not stray from her man? Male circumcision may have its religious underpinnings but in my mind it doesn't deny the man anything.
Yes I have heard it's more pleasurable with the foreskin still intact but I can't complain with how it feels without the foreskin.  |

What is the context of the conception of these threads?
What does white women have to do with female genital mutilation in Africa? It could almost be taken as you are referring to white people being too good for that, or black people being evil to do that.. but that isn't quite the political persona you pull off.. so I don't get it.
Regardless, its not a black/white/brown thing.. its a cultural thing. It's also a sensitive cultural thing.
Whether white people are holier-than-thou about it with this 'we'd never do that!' type of attitute.. to dictate that all those 'savages' that they are wrong, and we're right is a very sensitive area to tread.
All this thread really does is show that regardless of white people are liberal or conservative, they all agree that they are culturally enlightened and superior, and questionable disagreeable practices that aren't approved by white people, are always disagreeable to downright shockingly disturbing.
Of course, myself being white, I'd agree with the western white standpoint on this issue.. but thats the way it goes.. I'm one of them/us. |

That's an interesting perspective Tiger Beer. I actually know a women from Oman who was quite shocked on reading the newspapers while she was studying in Australia. She couldn't understand the fuss about it.
From her expression, I thought she was going to deny it went on or something like that, but she said "I've had that done and it's good." I thought "Eeeek!" but smiled politely, and tried to think about blue skies and cherry blossoms!  It had never occurred to her that it might be considered quite unpleasant. |
