This bar on the top of the Iteawon Hill has got to be the roughest bars in Seoul. Most of the violence is expat vs expat and does not involve G.I.'s |

It is probably the most violent bar in Seoul that I know of. But it's usually two sad sacks giving it a go at like 6 in the morning. I've never felt unsafe there, even when I was physically getting thrown out of the place. Practically every time I go there, I leave depressed about the state of humanity. The place is a hole. |

I echo those sentiments. I've been there before; when I eventually woke up at home I would need another drink just to forget the fact that I had been there. Some of the people who go in there are scum. |

Hehe. What does it say when I get kicked out of a bar full of scumbags? That I'm better than them or worse?
I believe that a lot of people's aversion to Itaewon is grounded partially in elitism. They basically don't like seeing all the Middle Easterners, Africans, and working class GIs. It offends their precious sensibilities. But Old Town Seoul is one place that even I have to admit is full of scum. Not everybody who's there, but a fair amount. |

Yeah, that place is the wild west. It's usually full of guys who have been out on the prowl all night, struck out, and ended up there because every other place is closed and all the girls have gone home.
Angry, sexually frustrated, drunk, tired guys aren't exactly the best crowd to be around at 6 AM. |

sounds like a reason to get up early on sunday morning. get a good night's sleep, eat a quick breakfast, then go there at 6am and wait for the first swaying, slurring retard to take a swing.
who needs the gym? |

Been there many times. It reminds of the bar in Star Wars with Jabba the Hut. You really get all sorts in there... russian hookers, middle eastern slimeballs, retard teachers, random koreans. After a night out, if I ask my friends "So where didya end up?" and the answer is "Old Town", an obligatory "oooh shit" is required. I have seen people pick up there but the women are generally pretty rough. All in all... great place! Should have a Michelin star. |

All you've said here is true, but for those of you who haven't been there, don't be overly scared. It's a decent place to shoot pool, and there's an incredibly diverse mix of nationalities who go there.
I've had loads of fun at Old Town before. I...
...played keep away soccer out front of the place last Halloween with a mixed gaggle of Africans and Irishmen.
...learned a good arm-bar from a security guard, who also let me play with his tazer. No that's not a reference to rough man-sex, though I'm pretty sure that's what he was hoping for.
...played poker with some special army boys--no, not special ops, special as in semi-retarded--and lost. Man, that was a humbler.
...danced with a pretty young insane Belarussian trombonist. We frotted.
...made an aging drunken off-duty prostitute cry. I had a teddy bear as a prop for my Halloween costume, and though by this point it was all puke-flecked and ciggy-burnt, she really liked it. I gave it to her because she was all sad and horrible, and she erupted in a frothy snotty monsoon of tears saying "thank you thank you, no one ever give me bear before."
...and other fun things too.
But yeah, there is a fair bit of violence in the air there, and a fair number of people who have--in all likelihood--killed people before, and plenty of utter dirtbags. But hey! Throw in a few good conversations and some nice folks too, and that's humanity in a bottle at the end of a long bender.
I'm happy to say I haven't been in a while, and I don't care if I never go again, and I wouldn't recommend it for the truly drunk or the more delicate flowers among us, but Old Town's all right in my books. |

Ask Bahrain. It's where all the Saudi's go on the weekend so they can have a drink. |

I learn something new every day on this board....
So I can find bars full of Mormons in Salt Lake city throwing 'em back, as well? Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread, I just thought Muslims were really strict about not drinking. |

If you read the first testiment Christians you are not supposed to eat pork or anything that comes out of the sea that doesn't have scales and fins.
