I've worked at the same hagwon for 2 years and in this time everything has been ok (paid on time etc). I even stayed an extra month until they found a new teacher which was something I didn't really want to do, but I had time before I start my new job. Anyway I received my final payment and as I was in a rush to get back to England I didn't check my final wage (which in the past I'd had no reason to do) which did not include airfare. When I was in England my girlfriend called my manager who said that they had made a mistake and once I returned I could collect it. I arrived in Korea this morning and called my ex manager who informed me,"As we paid your round airfare in the first year, we don't need to pay it for the second year." I feel like I've been royally bent over especially as I have helped them out on many occasions over the past two years.

SO, is there anything I can do now that I have already left the country and returned? Even though my previous E2 was cancelled the contract stated airfare would be paid and I was verbally assured of this before I re-signed. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe I should also mention that I now have proof in writing (by way of text message) that this airfare has not been paid for the second year. If this makes any diffrence or not I don't know.

i thought it was a one way at the end of a contract and a return if you are renewing.

Shouldn't your new school pay for the other part of the return trip?

Squirrel, go back and read his post. They didn't pay for his flight back to the UK. He's not talking about his flight back to Korea. Rolling Eyes Who expects an ex-employer to cover that.

If you read that it would suggest that two round airfares were asked for.

Of course two round-trip airfares are expected. He's just finished his SECOND contract. Two round-trip tickets.

My new employer is paying the airfarefor my new contracrt and as it's a uni i expect to get it. The non-payment was for the 2nd year entering and leaving Korea at a cost of 1.1 mil. This makes a difference as coming from the UK I don't get a pension refund and it's not a small amount of money.

So his employer is to pay for him to go to England and back?

round-trip does mean there and back doesn't it.

His employer did pay for a roundtrip in the first year why not a one way at the end of contract.

Looks like I've been shafted I found this in the the contract, although it states they will provide the tickets I paid for them and the first year I was reimbursed 50% at the start of the contract. The second year I was assured I would receive the money at the end. So looking at this it looks like I could get 50% back, but get done up the ringer for the airfare to Korea.

Airfare

The Employer will provide the Employee with one economy class ticket from nearest international airport to South Korea. The Employer upon arrival will provide transportation from the airport in South Korea to the employees new residence in Korea. After completion of the one-year contract, the Employee will be provided with an economy class return ticket. If the Employee leaves the Institute before his/her contract period ends, the school will not pay for his/her return ticket. If the teacher leaves the school before completing six (6) months of the contract for any reason, the teacher must reimburse the school the cost of the ticket the school has paid for his/her trip to South Korea. The Employer may deduct the equivalent amount off the employees last monthly salary payment

On completion of your contract you are entitled to a return ticket to your country of origin, a one way ticket.
Are you expecting your former employer to pay for your ticket back to Korea to start your new job?

I don't think so. You should get your full return to UK ticket. But now I'm confused (maybe I'm the one who's drunk Very Happy ). What do you mean that it seems you might be screwed on your flight TO Korea?
