How in the world did you do that? I can't even convince my parents that fan death is fake, and they've been in the US for over 20 years. |

How do you know you really changed their mind?
Maybe the just agreed with you, so you would stop trying to convert them.
Plus, I am sure no matter how much they think they changed, or you think you changed a person, there still will exist some fear in the back of their mind as their curl up in bed with the fan on. |

My wife finally stopped believing in fan death last year when we slept with a fan on all summer. She still thinks it can cause stomach aches though. |

Yeah - I have a grade 6 student - who thinks I am the best person to ever have entered his life...
I told him - all about fan death being a "myth" - and that if he closed his windows he would stop getting all the mosquito bites...
after I told him - he trusted me 100% and never opens a window anymore - whilst he sleeps with the fan on...
I noticed recently he has no more mosquito bites too.... |

Offhand, I think you are going to feel dead. Fans scare me. I have one on now, but I will NEVER turn my back on it. Mama Bobster didn't raise no idiot sons. No sir. |

I'm going to sound really stupid here, but is this why my boss told me to keep my patio door open when I turned on the a/c? I had sort of heard about "fan death" minus the details, but kinda assumed he was telling me to keep the door open for ventilation or some weird a/c rule (since it's one of those fake ones- not central air)... was he actually concerned about me suffering an inadvertant fan death? |

Probably not the same thing ... I know that at home it is common with air conditioners to be reminded to have at least some opening out of the room when air conditioner is running - ie either window slightly open or door slightly open - for it to run work effectively ... it doesn't have to be a lot ... and this recommendation did not have anything to do with fan death.

Air conditioners in apartments/houses are airconditioners - they run most effectively with the windows/door closed.........
maybe your boss has been reading abour "evaporative airconditioners" - like the ones huge department stores use and many large houses in hot countries use - http://www.coolair.com.au/producttour.html
these "evaporative airconditioners work completely different to korean apartment airconditioners - and the windows need to be open slightly.... basically they work by pushing the hot air out of the building...
with your airconditioner - . Assuming that it is hotter outside than inside, the air conditioner will have to keep running and running because cool air will escape out the window and hot air will come in. Its like you're trying to cool down the whole world's atmosphere.
If you leave the window open you will have to leave the ac running longer....because the ac is blowing cool air in and then its just flying right out the open window or door.....so make sure you close all the windows and doors so that it cools you room and then when the rooms cool enough you can turn it down/off....
Basically - leaving the door or windows open you will have to keep the ac running all the time and it still wont cool....enough....
and whats the point of running it to cool the room when your letting hot air in yourself through the window.... |
