Since this is a forum on things Korean, I see no problem with the thread title.
If you take the time to read the link you will see:

Thirteen South Korean and three Czech tourists were on board, along with five Cambodian airline employees and the Uzbek crew chief, officials said.

A KBS reporter was among the dead. His wife and two of his three children were on board as well. Their youngest stayed behind in Korea in the care of their grandmother. Shocked

Really, really sad story.

It is a really sad story for sure. The interesting thing though is that after watching the Korean news my wife and my co-teacher both knew about the plane crash, knew there were 13 Koreans on the plane and that was it. Both had no idea that there were actually 22 people on the plane. Both had heard on the news that there were only Koreans on the plane. Evil or Very Mad

As good as time as any, I guess, to compare public education with a crashing plane.

From Occidentalism:

Quote:
On Monday, twenty-two people, including thirteen Koreans, died in a plane crash in Cambodia. On Wednesday, No-cut News runs the following cartoon by Korean cartoonist Kwon Beom-chul. Is it just a coincidence or is this Korean cartoonist just an insensitive asshole?

Quote:
Translation:

President Roh is flying a plane on which is written Public Education. In the lower right-hand corner of the cartoon is written Low-cost Package Product.

Cabin Attendant: Next stop on our itinerary is private education shopping. Please get your high school records in order.

SEOUL, South Korea: South Korea has decided to conduct special safety checks of planes belonging to Cambodia's PMT Air after one of its flights crashed in Cambodia earlier this week, an official said Wednesday.

The Russian-made An-24 aircraft operated by PMT Air crashed Monday in southern Cambodia, killing all 22 people on board, including 13 South Koreans, according to Cambodian Information Minister Khieu Kanharith.

The bodies of the South Korean victims will probably be flown home late Friday, a South Korean official said, speaking on condition of anonymity, citing policy.

South Korean aviation authorities plan to inspect the next PMT Air flight due to arrive in South Korea on Friday, said an official with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. He asked not to be named, saying he was not authorized to speak to the media.

PMT Air flies a total of six roundtrip flights a week to the South Korean cities of Incheon and Busan from Siem Reap, according to the airline's Web site.

South Korea will also conduct safety inspections of planes from six other foreign airlines, the Construction and Transportation Ministry said Tuesday.

Those other checks had already been scheduled earlier this month, well before the crash, the ministry said in a statement.

"South Korean aviation experts are checking the planes of seven airlines and will send letters to their respective governments to take steps to improve the safety in case defects are found," the official said.

The other airlines to be inspected are Garuda Indonesia, Iran Air, Sakhalinsk Airlines, Vladivostok Airlines, Royal Khmer Airlines and Dalavia Far East Airways, the official said.

The airlines subject to the safety inspections have records of crashes, frequent delays and cancellations due to malfunctions over the past five years, the official said.

The safety checks are to end July 5, he said.

The cartoon shows no class and is incredibly insensitive. Just like the cartoons that appeared after the Cho mass murders. Sad

Apparently, there were 2 other Koreans in the group that refused to board the plane because of its condition. Good call on their part.

Final Destination, anyone?
