Every time I mention this to my director, she stares at me blankly and says "Oh, I'll have to speak to your landlady." Then motions me away if I stick around for too long. My apartment also has no bathroom sink, a fridge smaller than the one I had in my dorm room in college that food seems to spoil quickly in, a mildew problem, and holes in the walls and doors that allow a constant inward flow of gnats and smog. My last day at this school isn't til next Tuesday. I'd refuse to show up at school until the problem is fixed, but my boss has my last paycheck and my letter of release to hold over my head. Not really asking for advice, just felt like venting. (Though if anyone knows a way to make my boss fix this, I'm all ears.)

Oh come on. The hotwater situation sucks but you should've complained about the rest about 11.5 months ago

Unfortunately, it looks like she's just saying what you want to hear and won't do a darn thing about the hot water - for now at least - as your last day is on Tuesday. She's probably annoyed that you're leaving before the contract's up, and she's probably more than happy for the hot water to stay off for the rest of your time at the school as her passive-aggressive way of showing you that she's not entirely happy that you're leaving early.

I'd just suggest to keep asking her and try to remain as polite and civil as possible, despite her unprofessionalism, as she does have the letter of release and remaining money over your head - which she will no doubt use against you if she desires.

Unfortunately, I'd suggest you just suck it up and find a nearby bathhouse for bathing, but make sure you post the details of this school once you've received the letter of release and remaining money owed so everyone here is warned about working for that school.

i'd suggest going to a jimjilbang or sauna for hot water. the others are right. your boss won't go through the hassle of finding someone to fix it if u r leaving so soon, especially if u r breaking a contract.

I've only been here a little under 3 months. My apartment is one of the reasons I quit, though there have been numerous other problems. I tried complaining about the other stuff when I first got here, but my boss told me that 1) She would absolutely not give me a change of accomodations unless I was willing to pay the thousands of dollars she claimed were needed to leave the lease and that 2) I was an ingrate, as I had the only apartment at the school with aircon. (Never mind that the aircon was broken when I moved in and that I fixed it at my expense.) The end's in sight. My replacement teacher has been here a few years and has some money saved up. He plans on telling them he'll fly back to Vancouver if they don't give him a better apartment. And he's not bluffing. They might do it; they're losing teachers left and right, Korean and Western.

I'm not going to mention their name until after I get my LOR. My recruiter has already said he's never working with them again.
