i know this has likely been posted elsewhere, but i haven't found what i'm looking for, so please humor me!
basically i'm just looking for a couple good books on teaching esl/efl that i can pick up in a bookstore here in the states or order off amazon. i have zero experience and i'm heading over shortly, so while theory is good, practical is even better.
thanks a bunch in advance! |

For teaching kids - Teaching English to Children in Asia by David Paul.
For adults - How to teach English - There are at least two of these by
different authors, so look through them and see which one
you like.
Teaching By Principals - Douglas.... Brown (I think)
Learning Teaching - I forget the author.
There used to be a sticky on this site but I can't find it right now.
Something more practical and less theoretical:
ESL survival kit vol 1 and 2. - I forget the author as well.
Don't forget there are plenty of resources on the internet, including this site. Kind people often post links to useful websites. Tompatz and Ddeubel are two that often post useful advice and good links.
These are some sites that I use:
www.mes-english.com
www.bogglesworld.com
www.puzzlemaker.com

Of course David Paul's book.
I also would suggest Keep Talking. A bit dated now but still timeless and well organized. It is the type of book from which you can pull an idea and modify it to fit your own creative mind and class....
http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Talking-Communicative-Activities-Cambridge/dp/0521278716
For teaching itself. Get all levels of the Communication Games series, Hadfield. The old editions!!! The new ones were not an improvement in my mind. Writing games isn't bad either but the Reading games suck....
Next post I'll list a few others. I have a good list of these kinds of books in my link section , on www.ddd.batcave.net
