I see a lot of mushrooms growing recently in my local parks ,
I was hoping to go about picking some for my famed vegetarian goulash
I dont want to accidently pick any psycobile or "magic " mushrooms
does anybody know what theses mushrooms look like in korea or where they grow so that i can avoid them on my shroom picking expeditions
keep it real

Identifying mushrooms without any knowledge is silly. A poisonous mushroom can look identical to a non-poisonous one. That said, if the stem turns blue when bruised its either poisonous or hallucinogenic. The most potent hallucinogenic, at least in America, grow in bark chips. |

yeah right.......seriously though don't eat anything unless you know exactly what it is.
There are plenty of books and guides on the internet that can help you.
I know most countries in Europe as well as Canada and the States have actual mushroom gathering clubs.
South Korea may have one too. There is actually I mushroom festival from what I've heard down in the south of the country. Mushrooms are very popular here - although not the ones I prefer if you know what I mean.
If you see the mushroom in my avatar, I recommend not eating it. PM me though!
And if the mushroom stem turns blue when you pinch it, don't eat it unless you're looking for a psychedelic experience. |

Good advice. Loads of mushrooms are poisonous. And although you probably won't accidentally run across magic ones, it'd be a terrible idea to pick random mushrooms, unless you want to breathe fire. |

Fly Agaric.
My hippy mates used to try and feed me it.
They always claimed they knew how to dose me properly but i was never happy with their explanations. Never fancied wicked stomach cramps, the squirts and vomiting for no reason. |

Well if you drink it with tea you wouldn't have that problem.
And the anceint Brahmans in India used to consume the fly agaric through a high priest's urine. You see the priest would injest a massive amount of fly agaric mushrooms and then drink lots of water.
Soon enough the priest (or shaman in Siberia) would urinate and the psyoactive componesnt from the mushroom would travel through the piss.
Siberian tribes people used to and still do the same thing.
Supposedly the urine comes out in a very bright color and the taste is quite sweet.
This could also explain how Christ turned water into wine. But I won't even go there.
You kearn something new everday, eh! |

You must be referring to psilocybe cyanescens. THey grow everywhere in parks in seattle. Do you happen to also be from seattle? Oh and to the OP: if your looking for shrooms, and you've never gone picking them before, i wouldn't suggest trying it for the first time in korea. Identifying mushrooms can be a bit tricky. Some mushrooms look really identical and need a spore print to be properly identified. Anyways just because it bruises blue doesn't mean its gonna be what your looking for. I'm not even sure if korea has any psilocybe species. |

I understand that in Daegu at the herbs market, there are magic mushrooms for sale, but they won't sell to foreigners. They are sold as some sort of traditional medicine, instead of recreational use. Korea needs to add canabis sativa to its' arsenal of herbs! LOL |

Mushrooms of all kinds have many different habitats including dung. There are a variety of different psilocybin mushrooms some grow on dung, while others don't. Don't know what the deal is in Korea.
I'm also interested in not finding these things, I have the Paul Stamets identification guide at home, but didn't bring it with me. If people have more info on how to not find them please share! Thanks |

Depends on what the cow is fed and a variety of other conditions. Cow patties are very chancy but if you find some mushrooms on them, then you're probably set. Mushrooms tend to grow in the same place every year, so if you find a patch of good mushrooms and pick them, a good bet they'll be back again. Mushrooms are the largest living organism with some root systems stretching for the length of a football field. |

Pick them carefully though or you can damage the growth for the next year. |
