| Can anyone direct me to the Hitler bar in Uijungbu? It looks like I'll be going there tomorrow in another voyage. I'll post pictures if I make it there. |

There is another Hitler Bar? What is with the Korean fascination with Nazi Germany? 
Considering they were an ally of Imperial Japan I find that a little ironic. |

Some people really have no clue.
As for the irony Guri it is there indeed. But, it can be the result of historical focus. Here Japan was the big culprit of WWII having perpetrated many atrocities. History of the region, when dealing with WWII will deal with this more than with Nazi Germany.
Back home when I was taking History courses, it was he reverse. In High School we had a World History course and when WWII was covered Nazi Germany and Hitler were well covered for all the atrocities they committed. Japan came off lightly as just some Empire bent on conquest.
This warps perceptions and hence the stupid Hitler Bar here or the moronic Mao Tea house back home when Mao is recognized as one of the bloodiest dictators of the 20th century.
Back in Toronto I once saw a Coffee Shop with a picture of a laughing Stalin as its logo....makes one wonder at the sheer ignorance and stupidity of people sometimes since...

I agree Homer. People in Western countries perhaps are not always that knowledgeable about the millions upon millions that Mao killed. We certainly know about Nazi Germany and the things that they did. Stalin and Soviet Russia are let off easy for the things they did because they were "allies".
I would find a Stalin bar or Mao bar equally repugnant. I certainly wouldn't support a Tojo bar either.
Perhaps perceptions are different here in Korea. Obviously their perception of Japan is much worse than in the West. I am pretty sure that displaying the Rising Sun logo of Imperial Japan wouldn't go over too well in Korea. They recognize it for what it is.
Still, if the Nazi Swatika is universally regarded as a symbol of evil you would think that Koreans would be a little more sensitive. I hope Koreans truly aren't that ignorant. Mind you the alternative isn't great either. (That they are aware and don't care)  |

Guri....I think a couple of yahoos opening bars with nazi themes should not be linked to all of Korea and Koreans...some business people really are that stupid and will use anything they feel is original or unusual to attract attention to their business.
Anyway...stupid behaviour! |

Agreed Homer. I wasn't implying that all Koreans thought that way or I hope I wasn't. Stupid behaviour is not limited to certain Koreans though I guess.
'Hitler's Cross' restaurant opens in India
The owner of the just-opened Hitler's Cross restaurant in Mumbai claims he's not "trying to promote Hitler here." Instead, Punit Sabhlok tells the Mumbai Mirror, the Nazi dictator "wanted to conquer Hitler the world by using force and I would like to do that by the food and service I provide."
So far, according to The Washington Post, the restaurant has attracted little controversy in India -- where "Holocaust awareness is limited, Hitler is regarded as just another historical figure and swastikas are an ancient Hindu symbol, displayed all over to bring luck. There are just 5,500 Jews in all of India."
The Times of India, though, reports today that "concerned and irate Jews across the world" have been calling Israel's consulate in Mumbai to complain about the restaurant after hearing about it from news reports (such as this one by the BBC).

Hitler bars or restaurants generate bad publicity as you can see here. Hopefully most intelligent Koreans will stand up to this crap since I am sure it doesn't enhance Korea's reputation around the world. Peace. |
