| Does it not seem odd that for some reason US citizens have the "right" to a free fire service but not a free health service? |

| . Have you ever been in a hospital in Canada, the UK or France? They offere top notch service (for free to boot), which is more than you can say if you're in the US without health insurance/insured by an HMO. You wouldn't be paying more taxes. It's a matter of budgeting properly (ie. making sure less of your taxes makes its way into the pockets of military contracters (which is a good thing, right?)). |
France probably has the world'd best heatlh care. Britain and Canada=long long waits for treatment (triage). I wouldn't call that top-notch. But free goes a long way to alleviating that lack of top-notchedness. |
You're joking, right? You're just repeating that because that's what you've been told. You wait about 30 minutes to see a doctor. I've never waited more than an hour. Basically, you'll wait for a medical procedure if it needs to be done in the operating room and if your illness isn't life-threatening, but after a few weeks you'll get it done...which is more than you can say about the US, where you'll get it done right away if you want to pay through the teeth for it (don't count on your medical insurance to pay for it either: they'd rather deny your request than lose 50000$). |

Very fine. But, as BJWD already asked you, what are the social, economic, and political costs France's "better system" entails? And is that the course you advocate for Americans: to be more like France?
And, by the way, what does this have to do with America's fine tradition of philanthropy and giving? How do America's health-care problems undermine this? |
So, are Americans living better and longer than the French? Are the French really paying far more taxes than the American? Is the French economy really that bad? Are race relations much worse in France than in the US? No, no, no, and no. |

America and Americans have an admirable tradition of philanthropy and giving. That is this thread's point.
Why are you, Julius, Wangja, and others so squirmish about this, so eager to find ways to undermine it, or establish that France or some other nation or culture is morally superior to America, or whatever?
You are Canadian, aren't you, Hollywoodaction? Relax. |

Maybe, somewhere deep down, that was the point. It was buried under the tone, which screamed at full volume: GUESS WHAT, KOFI ANNAN + CO????????? AMERICA IS THE BEST AT EVERYTHING EVEN AT THINGS WHICH WE'RE NOT TRADITIONALLY KNOWN TO BE SUPERIOR BUT OUR SUPERIORITY IS SUCH THAT WE MEET AND EXCEED EXPECTATIONS IN CAPACITIES THAT BLOW YOUR MIND YOU PEACE HUMPING LIMEY/CANUCK TROTSKYISTS!--which is jingo-baiting if I've ever seen it. Your mannered distillation notwithstanding. |

Oh, is that all. I happen to know for a fact that at least one rather large, feathered poster on this board escaped her aviary, nests here, and from time to time engages in a little "jingo-baiting" of her own.
Now that I know you object to this "jingo-baiting" on principle, I expect to see you take shots at her threads, too. |

Don't have to be French to feel that there is no humor in French-bashing. Besides, have you ever asked yourself why the American media bashes the French so much? |
