Arrests After Burning Jeep Hits Airport

Updated: 17:31, Saturday June 30, 2007

Two people have been arrested after a Jeep was driven into the terminal building at Glasgow airport and caught fire.
Witnesses reported hearing a series of loud "bangs" and saw two men - one of whom was on fire - emerge from the vehicle.

There are reports of several injuries.

Downing Street said Prime Minister Gordon Brown was "being kept aware" of the suspected terror strike, which came a day after two car bombs were found in London.

A Home Office spokesman said that the official security alert level remains at "severe", as it has been for some time.

The Cherokee 4x4 smashed into a glass door at Terminal One of the airport, the busiest in Scotland, which has now been closed.

Hundreds of holidaymakers were in the area at the time, and witnesses said some of them removed gas cylinders from the jeep before it caught fire.

But there are reports the occupants - described as Asian males - were trying to pour petrol on the flames.

Scott Gleeson said he saw the jeep speed up and swerve towards the terminal at an angle to hit the door.

"They were obviously trying to get through to cause as much damage as possible," he said.

Holidaymaker Stephen Clarkson said he knocked one of the men to the floor before police intervened.

He said: "There was an Asian male. He was lying on the floor and he was on fire, the Jeep was on fire as well.

"The fellow got up and started fighting with police. I managed to knock the Asian fellow to the ground and four police officers got on top of him."

He added: "His whole body was on fire. He was quite a big fellow and was disorientated otherwise I wouldn't have been able to knock him down."

James Edgar told Sky News: "People were running past like they has missed their flight. They told us all to get out of the airport.

"Everyone was in a panic and police and security were scuffling with an Asian gentleman."

He added: "There was a lot of anger - if the crowds had got hold of this gentleman it would have been the end of him."

This is the key part, in my opinion:

Quote:
Kyuma, who is from Nagasaki, said the bombing caused great suffering in the city, but he does not resent the U.S. because it prevented the Soviet Union from entering the war with Japan, Kyodo said.

I don't think they would have wanted to Soviets to determine the future of their country. Just look what happened in Eastern Europe...

My parents live just down the road from glasow airport and it sounds like a bit of a nightmare there. It is the first day of school holidays in scotland and of course it was very busy. Also that part of the road is reserved for offical airport taxis so I cant imagine this was even remotely an accident. Witnesses seem to be saying that the two men in the car were not too happy to see the police, even the one who was on fire tried to attack the policeman who tried to go over to him to help. It sounds like they were asian in decent which scottish people usually mean as to be indian in decent.

Hotels are already full so the people who were supposed to have been flying out and dont live near by are having problems.

My aunt and uncle were on holiday in Ibiza and were coming back today there day has been a nightmare because they were on thier plane when Ibiza airport was evacuated because of a bomb (it sounds like that was ETA)which was then exploded in a controlled explosion. They were stuck on the plane for about 4 hours and just as they were cleared for take off the incident at Glasgow airport occured so were delayed again. They have finally taken off headed for Edinburgh and of course now Edinburgh airport is not allowing land traffic to come up to it. I am not sure how people are supposed to get to and from the airport if they are doing that. My aunt and uncle are still in the air but who knows what is happening now.

There are also reports that the hospital that one of the men were taken is being evacuated though I am not sure if this is true or what hospital. If he was taken to the nearest hospital it will be the Royal Alexandria Hospital (RAH) in Paisley.

And my dad was worried about me thinking about living in Cambodia!

These fools are pathetic.

Can't they even orchestrate bombs? How hard can it really be? Are they so fucking backwards that blowing stuff up as out of their realm of ability?

Tards.

muslims as a national security threat is a joke. They can hardly tie their shoes. In fact, if we did not provide them shoes, they would be have only bare feet.

Yeah I think in the UK there's less of a direct threat from Al Qaeda and more of a threat from an independent movement Osama has inspired within the muslim community in the UK.

But I said a year ago on this board, you want to shut down air travel, just attack the entrance ramps with truck bombs. There's no defense against that.

Just my view.

I think we will find that these were directly connected to Al Qaeda.
However are sympathizers acting independantly.

My rational for the above, total lack of success.

It will be determined to be retaliation for the Beknighting of Rushdee.

Here an interview with the guy that tackled the driver.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_6250000/newsid_6257600/6257644.stm?bw=nb&mp=wm

The question sounded funny.

Interviewer "Is the Jeep being treated as suspicious?"

Tackler "The jeep is on fire."

You have to hear the way the guy says it.

Does anyone else see the humor or am I a little twisted.

No doubt.

The thought of all those Scotsmen dutifully saving their pennies over the last year for their two weeks in the sun.... only to have their wee plans ruined...

The terrorists are lucky the police got them first...

Two more held over bomb attacks

Detectives investigating the failed car bombings at Glasgow airport and in London have arrested two more men, Strathclyde Police have said.
The arrests of the men, aged 25 and 28, take the number of people held over the attempted bombings to seven.

Houses are being searched in Houston, near Paisley, Merseyside, and in Staffordshire, where one of two doctors arrested in the inquiry lived.

Police are linking the failed bombings and the UK remains on high alert.

Police said the arrests of the two men, who are not believed to be of Scottish origin, were as a result of "intensive police operations in the Paisley area last night".

Assistant Chief Constable John Malcolm, of Strathclyde Police said: "This continues to be a fast-moving investigation and I am grateful to the public for their perseverance and support during these difficult times.

He added: "I would continue to urge people to be vigilant."

It looks like Brit Drs. are pretty stupid. One of the bombers is a licensed
physician in the UK. He's a Pali. He's among the elite in society but couldn't muster the competency to make one bomb? He missed at least 3 times. Thats pretty bad. If he hung out with the refugee camp kids in Gaza he'd know this stuff but again maybe he's just slow.

Ken Livingston has already commended the young male bombers as being amongst the finest Britian has ever produced.

Jokes aside, its worth remembering that this sort of lo-tech unsophisticated attack is precisely what got through all defences on 9/11. can be hard to rotect against with conventional means.

Same men believed to be behind both U.K. plots

GLASGOW, Scotland - The suspects who parked explosive-laden cars in London are believed to be the same two suspects who rammed a Jeep Cherokee into Glasgow airport last Friday, officials said Tuesday.

It was the latest theory in the quick-moving investigation, which British police turned their focus on Tuesday to a growing number of physicians with roots outside Britain including a doctor seized at an Australian airport.

A British government security official said investigators were looking into the connection between the drivers of the vehicles in London and in Scotland, and NBC News confirmed that authorities, speaking on condition of anonymity, believed the same two men were behind both attacks.

Does anyone else find it somewhat ridiculous that the western world has been attacked by a group of mad Doctors, every last one of them gentle, softly spoken sensitive mummys boys with parents all claiming its impossible for their son to be involved in something like this?

they should make a movie about it. "Blazing saddles" or something similar.
