This is my first time in applying to teach in Korea. I have been offered a job at a public school and most of my paperwork seems OK but this late Friday afternoon I got this extra surprise. I now require a police check to be done in Australia, before I leave for Korea- fair enough. I would like to find out what is involved from anyone who has gone thru this, especially in New South Wales, since it is a state thing. 1 was wondering�.

1. I assume I will need the standard $52 one rather than the $175 full fingerprint check (??)
2. Is a special one required for work with kids?
3. Do I need a new one for different jobs/schools?
4. Will it hold up the application process? What�s involved?
Anything you can tell me will help- especially if there is a cheaper way of doing it

If it's not a University, they'll generally accept one of those bull$hit background checks you get from places like instantpeoplecheck.com, which is where I did mine for about 20 bucks. You'll need to find the Australian equivalent of the site. Ask your recruiter which online sites are acceptable for doing the check. If your recruiter is exceptionally ethical, he may make you do an actual government certified check, but most recruiters don't care, and most schools never get around to actually looking at the report anyway.

and then the may never mention it again.
