Good morning..
I was looking through an esl job site this morning, check out the header on this advertisement, not to mention the contents. Sounds like this little young lady, needs some fan mail educating her about prejudice behavior? I wouldn't want this girl to be in charge of my marketing department. That's one BIG LIABILITY!!!

We are looking for young (20's), cheerful (smile!) teachers who fit our image of native English-speakers/Americans. By law, you must be a college graduate. Average-weight (or thin) people are preferred. Also, please, no Australians/New Zealanders/Irish/etc. Brits may be considered under special circumstances. (Of course no non-native English speakers or ethnic minorities.) Korean citizens/Kyopos with native-like English skills may be hired temporarily, and college degree is not required of them.

Not true. My previous co-teacher took a Korean private school to the Labor Board and won. Not all K's are prepared to roll over. |

Well my very first school was a Kids Club and they were very very awful.
As far as the OP goes, most hagwons don't say that but most mean it. Your photo matters at least as much as your resume at most hagwons. |

I think it's great. It would make me feel empowered in a "I get to drink from this fountain and eat at these establishments because of my heritage" kind of way. It would be like being part of a club...a Kid's Club!

After looking at the website, it's safe to say "God forbid I'd ever work at a place like that"
If I did, I would be piss drunk every night and come to class like a hungover clown at a birthday party. I'd be the scandalous foreign teacher seen walking down the street with his pants around his knees and a bottle of Johnnie Walker in his hand at 2:30 am, always looking crosseyed in the class.

well im young and white and i think its freaking disgusting the way the advertise that crap, is that illegal here because in the states if your were to advertise like that you would get soooooo sued.
I will never work at a kids club because of this advertisement |

Of course, none of these kids going to this school will ever think of going to New Zealand, Australia or heaven forbid Britain or Ireland when they are older. Nor will they ever see or have to deal with a dreaded 'ethnic minority'. Really they're just getting the best education they can!
Gina Song should be barred from entering those countries. |

It's actually a violation of the Republic of Korea constitution. Sadly, enforcement is a joke.
If someone were to advertise like that in the States, they would be fined for violating the laws relating to advertising of employment positions. If they rejected an applicant because they didn't meet those prejudicial requirements, the employer would be fined by the government and sued by the applicant.
Oh, here's a nifty story about Koreans and the Labor Board. The scummy place where I worked two years ago tried every trick imaginable to not pay what they owed to me and another foreigner after our contracts expired and we walked on them. The boss had the manager do all of her legwork with the Labor Board case. The manager was nearly in tears one day when I was lambasting him for what he was doing (assisting the boss's unethical stunts). He whined, "But what will the boss do to me if you two don't drop the case?" My response was: "Well, you can always go to the Labor Board for help." |
