So at the end of July my school closes for four days for summer break. I'm thinking I'd like to go down to Jeju. Anybody been there? Is it expensive to get down there and stay for two or three days? I'm on a pretty tight budget until the first paycheck arrives in August, but I'd like to hit a beach and all that while I've got the days off and it's still hot outside. Lemme know if there are any other cool places I might check out.
Thanks! Oh, no...kamsahamnidaaaaaaaaaaa. |

Jeju-do is the Hawaii of Korea. It's exactly like Hawaii, but with better food and the women don't wear coconut bra's. |

Its always filled with gaggles of school kids and everything is over-crowded.
Hawaii is amazing.
Jeju is just a really overcrowded vacation destination. Most newlyweds aren't even honeymooning there anymore because its so damn overcrowded. If you like being packed in a subway and going to the beach, well thats Jeju in a nutshell. |

The lava tubes were pretty cool, and there's a lot of pretty nature around. But I'd like to go again because both times I went was during the slow disintegration of my relationship with the ex and would like to enjoy it better. |

My favourite place is U-Do, for sure. It's a small island off Jeju that you take a 10 minute ferry to. It's gorgeous and you can rent a scooter and drive around the entire coast in an hour. The sex park("Love Land") is also interesting, a little stupid but great for photo ops. Overall, just stay out of core of Jeju city and definitely rent a car. |

No. Nobody has ever been to Jeju.
That is all. |

Wrong answer! Exactly like Hawaii!? Not even close....and I'll choke it up that you were being facetious about Jeju being exactly like Hawaii. |

I thought the sarcasm was obvious.
I've only been to Jeju on time over winter break.
Jeju reminded me of the one time I went to the Florida panhandle in winter
on a business trip. I had to wear a light jacket and the woman there apologized for the cold. I told her I didn't mind, because I was missing an ice storm back in Kansas.
When I went to Jeju I was in winter with a group and a tour guide took us around in a van. I felt sorry for the freezing palm trees at the airport. |

If you want to go to Jeju Island at the end of July, you had better get yourself on a waiting list now. I tried to book a trip to Jeju during that same week about a month ago and my travel agent still has me on a waiting list. Everyone in Korea wants to go to Jeju that week. Probably because everyone in Korea gets their holidays at the same time.
If you can't get to Jeju, try Deokjeokdo. It's an island that is a one-hour ferry ride from Incheon Port. I went there a few weeks ago with some friends and we pretty much had the whole beach to ourselves. The bonfire on the beach was pretty cool too. |

The only difference between Jeju and the rest of Korea is that Jeju has palm trees.
I've been there a couple times, and always greatly disappointed to be reminded its nothing like Hawaii whatsoever. |

What about taking a ferry instead of flying or going on a tour package? |

A great place to stay is the "Hiking Inn" in Seogwipo on the south coast. At 20,000 won per night it makes a good, inexpensive base for a few days. (www.hikinginn.com )The owner is very nice and will assist you with lining up any number of excursions, in English(also has bikes for rent, maps, info etc.). I suggest hiking up the volcano Mt. Halla , 6-7 hours round-trip, bring your lunch. You can fly to the island for around 120,000 won round-trip or take a ferry for around 20,000 won each way (3-4 hours) from a number of ports along the southern coast of the mainland. The tourist info line (1330) is a valuable resource to organize trips and transportation within Korea. Cheers. |

I was there for a couple of weeks for a kids english summer camp at Cheju Uni. Met some nice people and enjoyed myself. It didn't seem that crowded and the sea water was nice and warm (though a bit of a poo smell at one beach).
Here are a couple of pics
