The OP was talking about speaking English and Korean, not about writing so I think writing in Korean is not very relavant to the discussion.

You're right. I just felt he was being pretty hard on those who can't speak very well so I was just being overly picky. Laughing

Exactly. I never could have imagined people who have bought into a myth that they have to learn English so desperately, who spend so much money on it, who take so long to learn the simplist things, whose native teachers are so inept and incompetent (90% of them, at least), and who could provide such an amazing job market to people like us.

I find it quite astonishing how some adult learners of english(or even korean teachers) can't even string together ther most simple of sentences. Is it that hard to say "where are you going?" no they say things like "where is go?", it's amazingly inane. Things like "did you eat dinner?" seem to be out side the scope of the average Korean's intellect, saying things like "do you dinner?" it's laughable the depths of their ignorance. I might not be the best at Korean but atleast I don't mutilate the most basic of sentences. And this is after "studying" english for some significant period of time, but still their use of English borders on imbecilic. Are these people the retards of the population cause if so they constitute a large percentage.

One of the most important characteristics of any teacher is patience.......you don't have any. Go home. Your attitude will only make it a frustrating experience for you and your students.

I'm gonna hazard a guess you were drunk when you wrote this because of it's inanity [L inanis]. Look up "fossilization" if it's that big'a deal to ya. As for appropriate level book and material, I recommend TOP NOTCH Fundamentals or Level 1. The depths of their ignorance....

Friend, you should not be calling anybody else stupid or anything else. You have about 20 spelling/grammatical mistakes in this post. You've managed to mangle it about as badly as those Koreans you complain about.

Stop with threads like this!!! Some enterprising Korean is going to get a hold of this, post it on Daum or Naver, Koreans will start protesting and cutting off digits, and I'll have to go back to paying high taxes and waiting 6 hours at a clinic to see a doctor in Canada.

Remember the mantra: no taxes, free housing, skinny chicks. no taxes, free housing, skinny chicks.

Koreans are good at memorizing. That is what they are trained to do from Kindergarten on. Ask them to think, and they are lost. They dont know history, they dont know health standards, they dont know cultures, and sure as hell can not learn english!! You would think people living across the street from an American military base would learn something after 50+ years!! Shocked

Using 뛰어쓰기/spacing incorrectly is not the same as spelling a word incorrectly.

This post sounds very weird. Koreans are good at memorizing? If what you need to do to pass exams is memorizing, you will just do it. I don't think that means being "good" at it. Also, say, top 5% students always have to go the extra miles to impress and enter top universities. Trust me. I went to Korean high school. At one point, I couldn't get how some people can be that smart. They don't know history, health standards and cultures? What is this supposed to mean? So random. Who are "they"? Ask them to think and they are lost? Not even "ask them to think why English is hard for them" or "ask them to think why the sky seems blue to us" but just "ask them to think and they are lost"? Funny. Laughing

Based on your argument, I guess Americans who live near the Chinatown should be fluent in Chinese?

Do you really know enough Korean to converse with common Korean folks? Or are you just applying what pundits have been saying about Japanese for the last 20 years to Korean?

Let me just give you one stat.

Patent application by country

#1 Japan: 994 per million people
#2 Korea, South: 779 per million people
#3 United States: 289 per million people
#4 Sweden: 271 per million people
#5 Germany: 235 per million people

Some might argue that patents applied by Koreans are not of significance. On that matter, Who fukking knows?

But as quote below shows,
" The United States, Japan, Germany and South Korea all rank as dominant, scoring high on both nanotechnology activity and technology development strength"
Nanotechnology involves the high level of expertise and awesome brain power. No amount of memorization will achieve that.

In a nutshell, it all depends on who you hang around with. That is, you may be "out of work" Mr. Doe who came to Korea to teach English to mindless Korean Adjussi or Ajumma who is learning English because it is a current fad or a high level executive who is dealing with Koreans whom have advanced degrees from Harvard, MIT or Caltech.

Which one are you?

Well I am pretty sure that Korea is the most wired nation. If you want I can try to find a source but I remember reading that in the Korean Herald.

I know you can speak Korean very well and I respect your abilities. Would you have written it the same way as the OP?

Anyway, I'm not an expert at Korean and I don't want to drag this out any further.

The Korean expressions you are using are much easier to learn than their English counterparts for a Korean.

Korean: Where go. English: Where are you going.

Korean: Dinner Eat? (past tense). Korean: Did you eat dinner?

When using English, Korean have to use more vocabulary. Wow, you learned the words for where and go; dinner and ate!

Also, in the second example, they have to start with past tense and then use present tense. Its very difficult as an adult speaker to apply simple grammar rules when speaking.

I would have to say that learning the basics of Korean is much easier than learning the basics of English or any Romace language.
