Too much fuckin bureaucracy.

Youtube uses Flash, not Java.. anyway.

Fair 'nuff but see my info about who licenses those chip designs to Samsung (hint, it's a British company). The same British company's chip designs/architecture are found in about 95% of the world's smartphones. You also might want to read the part about Mac OS X being the real heart and brains of the iPhone.

Well, they pretty much have to. I'll say what other reviews of the Iphone have said: their major screw up was tailoring the Iphone to AT&T's specs when ATT has the crappiest network ever.

With the LG Prada, give it some credit for being the first phone to incorporate the new generation style and touch screen functionality (although XDA/Dopod/HTC have been doing this for years).

As for the iPhone, it lacks too many things to be considered a good buy even for a techno geek. All flash and no substance :

3G.
Its 2007, nuf said! I'm a globetrotter, I need a phone that I can use back home, Korea, Japan etc. This is not it. Luckily there's a solution.

Messaging.
The iPhone uses a simple enough virtual qwerty keyboard, but the fact that you can't cut and paste and there's no predictable input texting means that messaging is a laborious process. You would expect the iPhone, with the so-called superior technology, to have voice input messaging and navigation.

No MMS.
MMS allows you to send pictures and videos.

Headphones.
A lot of headphones aren't supported! Given the recessed line-out port, you will have to buy an adapter to use your own headphones. Sucks for people with Sony, Shure, AKG, Senn. headphones.

GPS.
The iPhone doesn't have GPS which is strange for a PDA/Phone of its size (it is bigger than the Prada and HTC), instead it relies on wireless (802.11 stuff) to connect to a network. Good luck finding a outlet (I guess Nepal might have a couple).

Irreplaceable batteries.
Those with existing iPods would understand the hassles of replacing dead batteries. In most cases, Apple would tell you to buy another one! Don't see much changes in strategy here with the iPhones. However, there are people out there willing to pay $600 every 6 months for a new phone. This is probably the group of people Apple is targeting at, fortunately I'm not one of them. Luckily there's a solution.

Can't play DIVX/MPG/AVI/etc videos.
Its got a good screen to watch movies, but you can't watch any of them on the iPhone. No problem, there's a solution.

iTunes.
One of the most annoying software to date, nuf' said!

No 3rd party software.
Ask the next person what Cocoa software is and he'll have no clue. The fact that only Apple fanboys know about this (and many aren't even well versed in the language) means that isn't going to be a lot of future applications out there for the iPhone. It isn't really running on a full featured operating system, but one that is merely enough to run widgets. I think that is where the iPhone will get most of its applications from which isn't saying much.

SOLUTION - Wait for the Meizu M8, everything the iPhone was suppose to be.

Quote:
Size: 58*105*11.8mm
OS: Win CE (Win Mobile 6.0) for Meizu (thousands of software including language stuff)
CPU:ARM11 667MHZ + Video CODEC (30 frames/Sec - oh yeah!!!)
Memory: 128m DDR SDRAM
GSM(quad-band) WCDMA/HSDPA/GSM/EDGE
Display: 3.3" TFT VGA+(720*480)160 dpi Color touch screen(use your fingers)
Camera: front:0.3 megapixels back:3.0 megapixels Auto focus
Battery: 1500mAH (removable)
WIFI: b/g
Bluetooth: 2.0+EDR
TV OUT\LINE OUT
USB HOST/OTG (connect a mouse, keyboard, any USB devices)
Audio: All major formats
Video: All major formats (including but not limited to MPEG2 MPEG4 WMV, rm,rmvb) (no mov....)
Senors: light(the brightness of the screen will be adjusted automatically according to the environment), accelerometer, proximity sensors. Meizu will also have sensors similar to those in Wii remotes.

Contingent prices: 4G: USD 265 8G: USD 330 16G: USD 460

I mean...wow. This thing allows you to run skype for free video/audio conferencing. Now that is 2007 stuff.

There is a problem with the Prada.

Whenever I dial a number that has a menu to choose from (press 1 for x, press 2 for y, etc) the number key pad light goes out...and there's no way to get it back on unless you hang up and redial.

More on this later.

Did you know that the Toyota Sienna has MORE US made parts than the Ford Mustang?

Yet, by a crucial measure, the Sienna is far more American than the Mustang. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that were publicized in "Auto Industry Update: 2006," a presentation by Farmington Hills, Mich., research company CSM Worldwide, show only 65% of the content of a Ford Mustang comes from the U.S. or Canada. Ford Motor Co. buys the rest of the Mustang's parts abroad. By contrast, the Sienna, sold by Japan's Toyota Motor Corp., is assembled in Indiana with 90% local components.

Also:

67% of the Japanese-brand cars now sold in North America are made in North America, according to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association.

We should step back a bit here. This isn't a flame; you made the honest mistake of assuming that because Samsung manufactures the CPU, they designed it. In fact, ARM (Cambridge, England) licenses/sells chip designs and architectures to chip and cellphone manufacturers, including Nokia, Samsung, LG etc. Manufactured by Samsung? Yes. Designed by them? Not really. If you take apart any phone, iPhone, Nokia, Samsung, whatever, you'll see that most of the parts, codecs etc. are foreign-designed, or copies of. It's the same for practically any electronic device in the world these days.

But about 95% of the world's smartphones - including the iPhone, Nokia, Mororola, LG, Samsung, etc. - are using ARM CPU designs/architecture, regardless of who manufactures. or stamps, those chips. This is much like the complete iPhone itself - if you read the black box it will probably say 'iPhone: Designed in Cupertino California, Assembled in China.'

When all is said and done, revolutionary devices are more than the sum of their components and find new ways to mesh hardware and software for the best functionality. Apple has a huge lead over traditional handset manufacturers like Samsung because they have access to the same supply of components, and will have access to the same telecommunications infrastructures, but have engineered their own software (Mac OSX) which simply leaves the others in the dust.
