Now, I have been posting here a long time, but I do not recall ever having protested about the microwaving of live kittens. Understandably, quite a few people here may be quietly incensed at my apparent tacit approval of such barbaric actions. Well, tonight I'd like to put that right, and state clearly for the record that I abhor the microwaving of live kittens. Please accept my sincere apologies for not having raised the issue sooner. |

Your belated apology is begrudingly accepted on condition that you are not remiss in a similar regard ever again. Otherwise, you will be relegated to a special forum reserved only for you and jinju to use.
We simply cannot let kittens go unnoticed in the face of other pressing issues, particularly Paris Hilton's makeover. |

It would appear to me that your sudden concern for kittens reveals a deep and insidious hatred of puppies. It smacks of a veiled desire to see all canine young exterminated through the explicit use of domestic electrical appliances. How do you plead to that charge, Big_Bird? |

Is boiling cats alive to make "Cat juice" in Korea acceptable?
It's supposed to be extremely healthy for the imbiber and I am sure it must be good for stamina.
Waiting for death.
Although cats are eaten in South Korea, it is more usual for them to be rendered into a "medicine" to treat rheumatism and arthritis. Unlike dogs, cats are not bred on specialist farms. This would not be cost effective when there are always starving strays. These are collected in sacks and, if lucky, are beaten to death with either a stick or hammer blows to the head. More commonly, they are boiled alive with herbs (sometimes after having their limbs broken to reduce their ability to struggle) until their flesh liquifies. The resulting "liquid cat" (known as "Goyangi soju") is then sold in small sachets. An average size cat, when cooked with dates, herbs and chestnuts, will produce 20-25 of these sachets.
Shocking Eye-witness Testimony
The following is an eye-witness account, reported to the Korean Animal Protection Society (KAPS) by one of its members, Miss Mun Juyoung.
"While passing by the Kyoung-il Health Food Restaurant, Miss Mun looked in through the window and saw a middle aged women walking slowly among the rows of hissing and boiling cauldrons. In her arms she held a cat, who seemed undisturbed by the water on the floor or the stream so thick in the air. Stopping at one of the hot kettles, the women sniffed once and dropped the cat in to the boiling water. Hideously scalded by the boiling water the cat screamed and clawed its way out but, the blank-faced woman, pushed it back in the water with a stick over and over again until the cat finally lost consciousness. The woman fished it out once more, the cat mewing and whimpering in pain, whereupon the woman pushed it back in for the final time."

So you think microwaving is bad but keeping them bottled up their whole lives is somehow ok? Sicko. |

But, Big Bird ... what about the turtles? Every year, around the world, thousands of turtles are getting squashed under the wheels of movnig vehicles. They can't HELP it they are too slow to get out of the way of huge trucks and passenger vehicles - heck, they ARE turtles, after all, moving slow is mostly what they are all about.
Yes, it's all very well and nice to express concern for kittens in microwave ovens. ANYbody can do that. But your complete and utter silence on the matter of turtles is not only amazing, but it borders on criminal and callous disregard.
Turtles, BB - THINK about the turtles! Just take one moment out of your day, and think about them. You'll be glad you did. And the turtles won't mind, either.

Sad and sick no matter how the cultural relativists spin it. I'm hardly a big cat fan but it's cruel beyond belief. So they rip apart live pigs and dunk live cats in boiling water. I'm loving Korea more and more. |

Cats are a contributing cause of schizophrenia.
Have you ever seen a schizo who didn't own a cat? |

But what about the children? Huh? You said nothing about being against microwaving children, did you? Makes us look at your choice of avatar in a whole new light. Cannibal! |

Boiling a cat alive is an atrocity and only an emotionally stunted perpetual adolescent could find it funny. |

I've heard it calms them down a little. Therapy, you know. Something about the purring and petting. Not sure sure if that's proven by science, but ... |

I don't hear you screaming about boiling lobsters or crabs alive. |
