I usually travel with a lot of flexibility on travel dates for this reason I use Air Asia or Tiger Air almost exclusively within their route zones.
I would suggest you check Air Asia first. When the time is right on certain routes their prices are ridiculously low (fexibility on date of travel is key). Buying online is convenient but remember the purchases are final with other carriers there is a good chance you can cancel by paying a fee.
If the price is not that low on Air Asia or Tiger (you can compare other airline web sites and other dates for Air Asia to see how your preferred flight stacks up) then head to a local Thai travel agent (I would not specifically recommend Kaosan). |

There are some good deals on kaosan, but be careful. I wouldn't hand over cash without having the ticket in my hand. |
