I teach pretty young kids. i like it. But now I've got it from on high to make a dinosaur teaching day. Most of my kids are pre-literate. Any cool ideas how to fill an hour or two with this? |

Hmmm interesting. I'll look into it, Might not work as my school provides about a zero budget for me. |

It's a crappy book to teach, but New Parade 4 has a whole unit about dinosaurs. Make photocopies.
Haven't taught it in a while but I think the focus of the unit is on comparatives and superlatives.
Good luck |

Watch, flour and glue. That's it. Make some dinosaurs out of cardboard boxes (free) and them grab a bunch of used newspapers (free).
All the school has to buy is some white glue (a couple of bottles), flour and water. I think the water might be free too. |

FREE newspapers (from the side of the street boxes, a pot, some water and some heat (cook the paper in the water for a bit).
Pretty low budget... |

Do the normal TPR stuff - learn the names of dinosaurs, relevant adjectives to describe them (body parts - long necks, short legs, green skin, likes meat, etc, numbers, size, etc), running games, write the number games, fly-swat the word, matching games, guessing games...
Teach 'does it have green skin?' 'does it have short legs?' 'is it a..' 'is it big?'... 'Is it green?' 'does it have 4 legs?'
many, many hours of fun with elementary stu's. You can also include random classroom objects/students/whatever.
Adjectives and the grammar of enquiry are your best weapons/goals, uses all sorts of vocab in good grammar structures and the kids'll love it.. many hours of lessons as a game on a plate, all done with pictures you draw.. |

I've got a powerpoint slide show that I swiped from online. I used it for my kindy science classes. We also made 'fossils' which consisted of pressing plastic mini dinos into a lump of clay, then filling the hollow with plaster of paris-type stufff you mix up from a powder. It is ready to take home in an hour or so. It was a HUGE hit.
The powder is called 석고가루.
If you want the slide show, PM me. |
