Hello, I posted about this job earlier for the Daejung English School and I thank everyone who answered... you were very helpful. I have some information after the interview and a few more questions. This school doesn't participate in the Pension program. As a US citizen I thought that schools were obligated to do this. Also the director seemed hesitant, but then agreed, to pay for two one way tickets (probably about 1000 a piece). I thought that that was normal. He wanted roundtrip but I don't think Korean Air will let me book a return more than 11 months in advance. Also he really didn't ask me any questions about my teaching. He simply said that I sounded understandable and he liked my tone of voice... it that normal? He is Korean. Also, he didn't offer a increase in salary for my experience which only a year but I've found that that usually translates into an extra 1 - 200,000 for salary. Any and all comments are appreciated.
Thank you
Mark |

The school should be participating in the Pension program. The school is cheating you out of a large sum of money. This is the bottom line!
The school probably doesnt care if you have experience that you can bring to their business, if they have to pay for the experience. This is the bottom line!
The director said that you sound understandable and that he likes your tone of voice. This roughly translates into the director likes that you understand/agree that you will not be getting pension and that he likes tone of you not demanding it. This is the bottom line!
The bottom line is that the school/business is already trying to stick it up your bottom end!
Now, thats the bottom line! |

I concur Mark with the last poster. It's a bad sign that they are royally trying to shaft you out of your pension. I know a school who are looking for a teacher down here in Jeju, but it's for a July start. I believe the second week in July. It's one of the better hogwons on the island, but nontheless it's still a hogwon. However, the owners are really nice, and by in large there is a good crowd of teachers, both Korean, and foreigner. Let me know if this works for you Mark. If your interested then I will double check the job is still open. It was a few days ago.
