Hi, Im Dan from England, i have a degree - graduated 2 years ago, but i have NO teaching experience, or voluntary work with children etc. I am going to start looking for jobs in central Seoul today, but i would like some feedback on my resume if possible, as with no teaching experience to me it look a bit empty.... also i have tried to link to the picture i have taken:

I am looking for an English teaching position in South Korea, in the centre of Seoul. I want to work for an established school with a good work ethic, and a friendly atmosphere.

Profile:
I am adaptable to new situations, a fast learner, I have the ability to get along well with children and adults of all cultures, backgrounds, ages, and personalities.

Experience:
I do not have any teaching experience, however I have several skills which I think would be useful. I am hardworking, and punctual. I am enthusiastic, and lively, and I want to work in a fast paced environment. Being born and raised in England I have excellent communication skills, and a high level of written and spoken English. I enjoy meeting new people, and think I would really enjoy working with and teaching children.

Interests:
I enjoy socialising with friends, and meeting new people. I like to keep fit, and regularly swim, and run. I have also practiced Tai Chi for over 2 years. I have travelled around South East Asia and have a passion to see foreign countries, meet people from different walks of life, and experience new cultures.

Getting a first teaching job in Korea does not require any previous teaching experience.

Omit any other experience ie. waiter, bartender, shop clerk, etc.

You can even omit the 'hobbies/interests..

It's not like 'home'....might confuse someone.

Include your college/univ. and attach a 'professional' looking photo....

that's all you need to 'job shop' here.

You'll have no problems getting a hagwon job in Korea. You're the right age, 'handsome', white, breathing, and have a degree. Good luck.

That was my professional picture!!! Ill take another one, maybe a full length body shot and see if that comes out better.

I would suggest you omit the following from the Experience section:

I understand your position at the Lounge is valid experience in interacting with people but as another poster said it might confuse someone not familiar with what you are doing.

I would be surprised if you don�t get a job offer from this very post. Good luck and enjoy your time in Korea.

I read through a lot of resumes at my job. I think that they should be in point form, not full sentences. This makes them much more reader friendly.

Get rid of the no teaching experience for sure. point form your responsabilities at different jobs. starting with a verb, not with "I" This will make your resume a bit longer, and look more proffesional

Also for your TESOL course, you should point form some things that were focused on, and how many hours you had in class and practice teaching. The same with your degree, you have a degree in Business. Point form anything that could be seen as having to do with teaching or working at a hogwan (if that is what you are applying for.

The TEFL course was 20 hours long over 2 days - just a basic introduction, with no teaching experience

My degree was business but im struggling to think of any specifics of ho it could apply to teaching

I will revamp my cv, get rid of the Is, and put some of it in bullet form, as well as taking the other editing advice i.e. taking out most of my non relevant experience and taking another picture too

Hi Kiwib, you might want to include a small cover letter just explaining your education from your TEFL certificate and also your degree. Just a paragraph or so of how your education would allow you to be a successful teacher. Your edit looks good though. BoL.

thats a full year of hardwork hair growth youre looking at there, its been tough but i think the results are showing

I don't know what else to put in my resume nevermind a coversheet. My degree has nothing to do with kids, or teaching, and my tefl course was 20 hours long over 1 weekend, and i diddn't get any actual real teaching experience from it apart from preparing a couple of 2-5 minute 'lessons', and now i haven't got the time or money to do a longer one, so i dont think an extra coversheet would add any value to my application

You don't need a 'cover letter' ...

In the Korean a good photo is worth more than an impressive resume.

Have a 'professional' take a passport photo...

make sure your expression is 'warm' and honest/sincere

wear a tie and jacket,

you don't need to cut your hair, but..

tie it back or wet it and comb it
