I've recently got back into drinking Guinness in a big way. But, as i'm sure most of you are aware Guinness is pretty much liquid Columbian cocaine, price wise over here. Just been to the family mart round the corner and 4x330ml cans set me back 14,000 won!!

Can the stout drinkers offer up any reasonably priced alternatives? What's Hite Stout like?

Thanks.

Hite Stout is fine but it's not a replacement for Guinness. I don't even think Hite Stout is a stout!!! It's like a dark beer.

Costco are doing Guinness now. Can't remember the price but I remember thinking it was fairly cheap for Korea.

Actually Hite Stout is pretty damn good. It's not guiness, not by a long shot but for 25% of the price it is pretty impressive. Maybe closer to Bottled Stout Guiness as opposed to draught.

"What's Hite Stout like?" - good god man, you can't go to the store down the road and buy one? So for the shame! ~^^

mix hite stout with regular korena piss and it's all right. Guiness is way too expensive.

I've been to bars where the dark saeng maekju is a bottle of guiness poured into the bottom of the pitcher and then topped up with regular draught.

It's not that bad to be fair.

In the interest of science I put this one to test the other night, and I have to say it's pretty good. Purchase one can of Guiness and fill your glass 1/8 to 1/4 full, then fill the rest of the glass with piss water Korean beer.

It makes an OK brown ale, at least better than the local stuff.

The Hite Stout isn't too bad. I like it. I much prefer Guinness, but for the price Hite Stout is OK. It's probably my favorite Korean food. Wink

I buy Coopers Stout from Homeplus, similarly pricey though, 3500 a bottle. Still I don't drink much these days, having a 2 month old baby keeps me to about a 6-pack once a week.

Leffe dark ale is a steal for 2,300 a bottle at Lotte Mart.

As Jagnatha mentioned Homeplus has Coopers (Australian) Stout fermented in the bottle. First time I tried it was last night. Fantastic.

I'm actually going to go out on a limb and say I prefer Coopers Stout to Guiness when it comes out of the bottle. The chocolaty, fruity flavors and full body are a real treat. As a matter of fact, I have a few bottles in the fridge for tonight. I've also purchased some Kronenbourg to go with the pizza I plan on getting and two bottles of Duvel, expensive as all get out but one of the finest beers on the planet, in my humble opinion.
