Seems that Putin's performance in Guatamala City delivered Sochi the gold.

Yeah, Putin gave a speech in English. Roh should have tried that, what an idiot. He just isn't very creative.

Putin being here was very important," said French IOC member and former ski champion Jean-Claude Killy. "He worked very hard at it. He was nice. He spoke French -- he never speaks French. He spoke English -- he never speaks English.

Interesting article. And let's recall Roh's bright idea was to ask the foreign press to ask their questions in Korean or he wouldn't answer them.

Doesn't surprise me. Look at the last time Russia hosted a world event. Korea has had the World Cup and the Summer Games within the past 20 years.

China, Russia, I wonder who's next? Nigeria? No, has to be Indonesia......

I am sure that there was a lot of money "transferred". This is the Russian way of doing business and nothing have changed but that there are Kremlin Oligarchs as oppossed to those who had pretentions to just Oligrachs.

The Seoul Shinmun said Cheong Wa Dae is seriously considering the measure because it believes etiquette demands that overseas reporters speak the local language when they ask questions of the countys head of state.

The paper quoted a Cheong Wa Dae official as saying it was awkward that the president had to wait for questions to be translated for him during a live broadcast, adding there was no reason why foreign reporters shouldnt use the language of their host country.

At first glance at this, I was like WTF? But on second thought, I think they have a point.

Foreign reporters should be able to hire a translator when asking questions of the president of a country.

It would be cool if Roh could speak English. However, I guess since he's the prez, while standing in his country, it's not a bad idea that reporters make some effort on the communication front.

I missed something. I was thinking the press conference took place in Korea. Embarassed

See where not reading the links gets you?

Wait, it said above "the local language". I am confused.

Edit: Someone sort this mess out. It seems to me that reporters in Korea should address their questions in Korean. Yes?

There is a dire need for sensible planning laws and proper consideration of multi-million dollar developments here.

at the moment all sorts of crazy, wasteful and ill thought-out projects go ahead here on the fanciful whim of some loon in government.
