I've having a hell of a time trying to find a flight home after July 28th.. Yes, because it is peak season. Its looking like its going to be at least 1.6 million won, one way. ouch! I was hoping to make a several-day stopover in Tokyo too but its not looking too optimistic.

Is anyone else going this route around this time?

What are you paying?

Has anyone ever found it cheaper to fly in to Buffalo or Detroit instead?

I think you're talking about the Northwest Airlines trip. I took it last winter. It was surprisingly good. It was smooth sailing (okay, flying) all the way. Even U.S. customs was smooth. Post 9/11, I was expecting the worst at U.S. airports in terms of delays due to security.

The downside is; for reasons that I don't get, You cannot stopover in Japan. They don't allow it. Sad

try booking it yourself on expedia.com
I saved about 500$ on my last trip to Canada. Might be a little late in the season....it's worth a try though!!

Or book a flight from Nagoya or Tokyo. You could get a cheap flight over, or take the Busan ferry. I flew AA from Nagoya to Chicago to Detroit...went very well. And NW from Nagoya to Detroit....cheap but the bitchiest/oldest/fattest attendents in the air. Check out the sites or No. 1 Travel (big Japanese discount site).

I'm not talking about any specific airline, I'm just talking about flying from Seoul to Toronto.. Preferably with a stopover in Tokyo to visit a friend. I'm not concerned with security, I'm concerned with prices! Stopovers in Japan are possible and allowed. 9/11 was 6 years ago man.
