The VP is a member of the Legislature, President of the Senate.
Article. 1.
Section. 3.
This is the only place that describes the constitutional power or responsibility of the Vice President.
Article. 2.
Describes the Selection process for the VP. It also details the Ascension process, But in no way describes a duty, power or function beyond ascension.
There could be arguments for precedent here but the constitution seems vague in terms of whether the VP falls into the Executive. The speaker of the House is not considered to be in the executive branch why would the President of the senate be considered so? |

Interesting points. Why does he have to be such a Cheney about it though? As far as I know no other vice president had problems with sharing this information. |

If the Founders had intended him to NOT be considered part of the Executive they would not have named the position the Vice-PRESIDENT. If he had no role in that branch, he would have been called solely President of the Senate. His only duty as Pres. of the Senate is to break ties. Hardly a grueling job given it happens... almost never. Do you really want to try to argue they created the VP solely to break ties in the Senate and gave him a meaningless title as VP just because?
This is all self-evident. |

All signs point to him being a member of the executive branch to me. |

Then if the VP is not part of the Executive, why could Cheney in the past constantly cite Executive Privilege for a lot of the secrecy surrounding his office???
I think thats the real issue; a blatant, audacious double-standard. Executive privilege when it suits him, reinvent the office when FOI/Archives come knocking.

I tell ya. In some ways the Iraq war has been a blessing for this administration. I can't imagine Bush or Cheney still having their heads if it were a slow news day. If I were a conspiracy nut I would be skipping right by that whole mideast domination angle and postulating that the entire war effort is just to so they can fu#ck with the constitution back home.
Oh yeah, muslims are out to destroy your way of life. In case you forgot.
On a side note. I find it really hilarious that the big tough americans who can kick anyone's a#s at the drop of hat are so afraid of a few guys with towels on their heads. I bet your grandfathers, who fought Nazi's and waves of Kamikaze, understand what a real threat is. Sorry, I guess that should be in it's own thread. |

Dirty "d-i-c-k" Cheney is a not-so "mastermind" criminal is he not?
He'll be facing the music before too long; we all do |

This is the first time in modern history the USA has had a very weak president in need of a powerful VP. I think FDR didn't even tell Truman about the nuclear bomb. But Bush needs Cheney for the hawks who do not defer to Bush's religious authority. |
