The PS3's that were released at launch are fully backwards compatible. They basically have a ps2 built in (emotion chip). Now Sony decided to remove the emotion chip to save money. This sucks for everyone else now because it not fully backwards compatible any longer. |
Right on! No wait.... awwwwww. |

Like I said, the jury is still out.
If history is an indicator, whichever format the pr0n industry chooses will ultimately determine the victor. |
Like YOU said? Whatever. Blu Ray has taken a big step forward with the Blockbuster move. Yes, it's NOT the end of the format war but signs of a victor are emerging. |

XBox360 is still the console to get for now. Next year, that may change to the PS3. XBox Live is completely worth the money. Get a 1 month subscription, if you don't like it anymore then don't renew. Chances are, you'll stick with it.
Think about how much the PS3 costs versus the 360. So the PS3 is a blu-ray disc player. Big deal. Can you afford to buy Blu-Ray movies? Do you have a gigantic 1080p TV set that is big enough for you to discern between HD-DVD and Blu-ray?
The PS2 came with a DVD player. Yet, 95% of the people I know with a PS2 also had a stand alone DVD player. When the victor in the HD format war emerges, stand alone players are gonna be less than $100. Buying a XBox 360 or PS3 solely on the them being HD content players is moot.
Pick the console that has the best games. Review site after review site has established that the difference in the graphics between the 360 and the PS3 is minimal. Some games run better on one system, some games run better on the other. Just think of it as a regular PC. Some games run better with an ATI card, some run better with an NVidia.
Right now, the 360 has better games. XBox Live is the biggest selling point for the 360. Not to mention Xbox live Arcade and Marketplace. Also, you got Halo 3 coming. Enough said. |

I agree with this but there are some very good games coming out over the next 6 months. Lets just say I'm glad i got my PS3 at launch as opposed to in a year.

To answer your questions, YES and YES. HD-DVD is priced comparatively so your statement about cost of the discs is moot. And obviously the price will come down eventually. Stand alone Blu-Ray players are going for $800-$1000. The PS3 $600....Hmm? worth it? i think so.

Your on crack (very good crack) if you seriously think a stand alone HD-DVD or Blu Ray player will ever be under $100. Not for another 10 years. If your in the market for a Blu Ray player why not just buy a PS3? It's about $300 cheaper.

Very true, but this is only because the graphics on the ps3 are limited by the developers knowledge of the Cell processor. Sony has not released any Dev kits for the developers to utilize. Developing games for the ps3 is still unchartered territory and very difficult for developers but they are getting better. Xbox 360 has great support and dev kits for their developers as they have had a year head start, not to mention developing for the 360 is MUCH MUCH more familiar for programmers as it is Microsoft. Besides graphics aren't all that matter. 50gb of space on a single disc is any developers dream come true.

Yeah. Read my first post again, r-tard. |
I did, you dumbphuck, you cited no evidence other than LIKE I SAID and the experience with VHS vs. Beta, which isn't relevant here since Blu Ray has taken a big step forward with the Blockbuster move.
I've also talked to others and they say they've heard of others who've had problems with XBOX breaking down. I think I'm going with PS3. |

Evidence? Ooooooooooooooh, Blockbuster choose Blu-ray...they've also closed 500 shops in the past 2 years and are way behind in customer acquisition compared to Netflix.
Point blank, the jury is still out there's nothing you can say to refute that fact. I don't need evidence, and I don't need your lip.
Xbox breaking down? You can cook a steak on a PS3.
We can argue 'til or fingertips are bruised, but it's moot. History will determine the overall winner, but by all accounts the past 2 years have seen the 360 crowned as the king of next-gen consoles.
If you want to wait around another year and then do whatever Blockbuster tells you to, be my guest. In the meantime, I'll be rocking out on the 360.
Go for the PS3. I don't need more tossing hacks wasting space on Live. |

| Granted xbox 360 has a wicked suppourt base of online gamers, I actually met some pretty cool people on there, but it's not much of a selling point when you go through 2 consoles in under a year. I was totally flabbergasted. One breaks down, ok I got a bad one of the bunch. Two!? There is a hardware issue and it obviously isn't going to go away. I think I had my ps1 and 2 going for YEARS! and we are talking about some serious abuse. I bet if I unpacked them, they would still work without any trouble. |

Yes, evidence. Perhaps YOU don't need any but most sane and credible people do.
I'm glad you're happy with your XBOX, but well, plenty of others have issues with your choice.
My point was over Blu Ray versus HD DVD, not PS3 versus XBOX360. Get a grip, gorgan. |

| OOOOOH blue ray. F' that. Look who has the better cast of games. Its 360 alllll the way. Sony dropped the ball with exclusive content so many times that their are very few games that ps3 has that the 360 doesn't. Can't be said going the other way. Gears of War last fall, Halo 3 this fall, whats the killer app for the ps3? Ya got nothin. The best game Sony had this year was God of War 2 and that wasn't even for their big system. Grab the 360 |

1.) There is NO EVIDENCE. A sane and credible person should recognize that.
2.) Read the title of the thread again, r-tard. Wait...YOU WROTE IT.
If you want to post about Blu-ray and your glory days of restocking the shelves at Blockbuster before you started working in Korea, start another thread about watching movies instead of which gaming system to buy. |

1) So you're saying Blockbuster's choice affects NOTHING in the format war? None so blind as those who refuse to see.
2) I did write it, but I was referring to your comment about HD DVD and Blu Ray, looks like you need to attend special education, you self-proclaimed seoulsucker. |

Whoa, dude...that was like, deep and stuff.
I never said Blockbuster's choice won't have an effect, just that it's not the Battleship sinker you're claiming it to be. HD-DVD is alive and well at the moment, and my point still stands that the finish line is a long ways off. |

Dude, I NEVER said the move was the death blow to HD DVD but it seems you conveniently ignored the fact that Blockbuster made the move because 70% of its customers who rented either of the two next-generation formats picked Blu Ray. Granted, better doesn't always win but the move DID make news AND Blu Ray has double the storage capacity of HD DVD.
Careful who you call r-tard, lameass. |
