I would like to work out in a gym, but I know thats out of the question if you're not in an international oriented place like Seoul due to xenophobia. I feel you still can do anything you want if you're resistant to xenophobia, because it's not violent xenophobia nor hostile, just uncomfortable on an emotional level. |
so, do you find there's much xenophobia here?

Missed that one on the first pass....
What in hell are you going on about?
You can join a gym and work out just fine in every city in Korea. But if you are scared or unconfortable with the xenophobia riddled gyms the take up jogging. That way you will work out and improve your endurance and ability to out run the xenophobia. |

it is pretty shocking the lack of things to do in the week, i thought i was alone in this, but it seems a lot of people are in the same boat
i would recommend taking up some sort of constructive hobby, myself i make music and have my website project, i'm tempted to do an online degree or something similar, only boring people get bored is quite a good phrase
i don't think that there is a problem with going to the gym, although i don't go despite my best intentions i don't think blaming being on korea is fair, my girlfriend goes to the gym every day and she lives way way out in the sticks of Ulsan |

WTF are you talking about???
I live in the same city as yourself and have lived here for many years...
I can remember only 1 incident in changwon that could be construed as xenophobia....I have more trouble in seoul than i ever have here. If anything i have many more positive than negative experiences. i don't go into situation where i will likely get into trouble like trying to enter nightclubs and making big fusses on the street but i do socialize quite a bit out on the street and in bars, i walk around hand-in-hand openly with my girlfriend for many years. nobody in changwon has ever said a thing. I know some things do happen but a lot less than anything i ever encountered back home.
I think you are paranoid and it is all in your head.
I have been at gyms here for 3 years, never ever had one problem. actually they are usually happy to have you on board. The one across the road from yongji lake in the newer building is a good one that is well run....
i think you need to get out from under your shell |

I don't get the Xenephobia stuff...... those who complain about it sound like reverse Xenephobes to me.
Stop being so self concious. It takes strength and courage sometimes to grow up and learn to like yourself. When you do, you'll realise you're the one who's in charge of your reactions and how you accept people's curiosity or hostility, what ever it may be. So what if someone screams 'go home' in your face? That happens everywhere on earth to people who obviously look a bit different to the norm and is borne of lack of understanding on both parts and ignorance. How can you hope to affect change and be a great ambassador for the international community if you avoid everything and hide in your room?
Courage!! |

If you are interested in studying the Korean language,
you have a big challenge ahead of you.
Here is how I do it. |
