Still, Bale was the best part of the whole thing, and there's nothing bad I can say about his work in it; but still, it was pretty silly stuff, yeah?
Nothing against old Bale tho. That dude's the best part of every bad movie he's in. |
I really enjoyed Equilibrium. I saw part of it on Korean TV, so I bought it and watch it every once and a while. It's entertaining and I have managed to watch it more than once without getting bored (which is what usually happens when I see a movie more than once). Great fight scenes too.
Christian Bale is very very dedicated to his craft. That can certainly not be denied. But he's not the only one to lose or gain weight for a flick. One person who freaked me out was Jared Leto. He put on A TON of weight for a flick...

Yeah, I enjoyed it too, I guess I was just being kinda snooty and knocking it cause it was silly and the dramatics were a bit of an afterthought. Superb fight scenes though, no doubt.
BTW, Bale turned in one of his finest performances IMHO last year in a small, brutal, little-seen picture called "Harsh Times." Excellent flick. |

I've heard of Harsh Times but I forgot to check it out. I am downloading it now...I'll let you know what I think...The man can act! |

That's part of the definition of a mesomorph. True mesos can gain and lose weight as they wish so he's not nuts, although I would say dedicated. I'm his height and 121 is 12 pounds below my modeling weight in the eighties. That's pretty darn thin.
I've never seen Christian Bale do poorly in a role, either. He creeped me out in "The Prestige." |

What I want to know is what is all this weight loss and gain doing to his health? Tom Hanks has done the same thing a couple times (Philedelphia* and Cast Away), and he hasn't aged very well at all. I remember reading a Men's Health years ago in where one of their health experts attributed this to his crash weight losses.

I heard the equilibrium action scene at the end could only be filmed once due to budget. No retakes, no 2nd chances. Christian Bale pulled it off.
That guy is an awesome actor. I think he's very underrated. I think Edward Norton is very underrated too. They are never on anyone top 5 list of great actors, even though they are unbelievably dedicated and talented. |

I agree. I think Christian Bale and Edward Norton are probably the 2 best young actors in the business right now. I also like the fact that they'll still do low budget movies if they like the part. They haven't totally sold out like Nicolas Cage has. I know Leonardo DiCaprio's a decent actor but, I'm sorry, the guy just bugs me. |

I just finished watching The Prestige  WOW!
As far as great young actors, I have to give props to Hugh Jackman...who else can be Wolverine, Van Helsing, a crazy Magician and a boy from Oz and be convincing in each role....?
Tomorrow night I'm going to watch Harsh Times....I'm really starting to love this crazy guy! |
