Personally I hope Nate takes down Silva. I don't think it's going to happen, but it would be nice.
I also think Tito might meet his match in Evans.
The rest, I don't really know much about. Any thoughts or predictions? |

Here's there promo video: http://73.ufc.com/
More info on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_73
I'm not that much into MMA, but my interest in boxing and (finally) pro wrestling has waned, so there's not that much regulated violent entertainment left (reflecting at least somewhat the spirit of noble warriors of bygone days...)
I hear that MMA coverage has practically saturated cable networks back in the west...
Anyway, the most interesting match-up for me is the Antonio Nogueira - Heath Herring bout (even though Noguerira has beaten him twice before in PRIDE...)
I predict a Herring upset win (based mostly on a hunch, and the fact that Herring is on third match of a comeback cycle while Nogueira is now older and new to the UFC format, I think...)
Plus it gives me an excuse to rerun this Herring classic: http://www.johng.co.uk/index.php/2005/12/31/k-1-video-heath-herring-vs-yoshihiro-nakao/

Hey RTeacher,
do you have any more videos of old fights? They have pretty much taken down everything. I can't find any old fights anywhere. |

On the rare occasion that I need a fight fix I just Google a particular classic fight and check out all the websites until I get a link that works...
After your post, I Googled "videos of classic MMA fights" but most all the first websites that came up contained a sleazy mix of porn, a few MMA fights, some "street fights", and a few "catfights"...
This one didn't seem so bad, and it had a video of the Fedor - Mark Coleman PRIDE fight - but there are still (less crudely advertised) links to sleaze...

I know this is on Sunday, but what time does it air here? I thought I caught the ad on Super Action that said 10:30am? |

Well, the live show starts 10pm (Sat.) Eastern time which would be 11am Sunday here...
One interesting thing about the Rashad Evans - Tito Ortiz fight is that Evans has made an exact prediction: he said he's gonna win by KO at 3:36 of the 2nd round ... |

I've only seen Ortiz fight a couple times, and I've never seen Evans...
From what I've heard (and their Wikipedia profiles...)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rashad_Evans http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tito_Ortiz
it could go either way - Ortiz has better "ground-and-pound" and heavy elbows, but Evans is probably a better wrestler (and he has a degree in psychology...) Evans has usually performed very well as an underdog, so if Ortiz is favored it might work to Evans' advantage ...
I don't even want to see what the Vegas odds are (because I don't want my gambling habit - which I have to reign in and give up eventually - to spread beyond betting on some horse races and - at my age - maybe Bingo...) |

Silva in the 2nd by KO. |

I am taking Ortiz in the first round, for sure. I think he is looking to make a run to re-gain the title and it will begin in Sacramento, and I don't even like the dude.
I also like Silva in a decision. |

When I watched Silva in Pride, he didn't seem that good, but maybe I just watched the wrong fights.
Man, he has destroyed his UFC opponents. At least Lutter took him down this last time. So I am hoping Nate takes him down, but Silva is an impressive fighter.
I don't think Tito has what it takes to go all the way. However, he is a great competitor so I can see him winning this fight, but I don't think he can take it all the way.
When does Fedor get his shot at Randy?? When are they going to start merging Pride and UFC? |

It boils my blood to think about Fedor sitting at home with no contract at the moment..... why doesn't Dana White get off his ass and offer him a deal?? I think it's because he knows Fedor will destroy anybody currently in the top ranks of UFC. White has done a lot of trash talking over the past few years about how UFC fighters were superior to Pride, and that Prides fighters were nothing but medium sized fish in a small pond of talent..... altho his claims did seem somewhat proven true when CroCop got KTFO by Gonzaga.
Fedor is the man. I won't be happy until I get to see Fedor VS. CroCop pt.2. |

I was surprised at the CroCop UFC debut but hopefully the same thing won't happen with Noguera's UFC debut. |

I heard that the main sticking point with signing Fedor is his insisting that he have the option of competing in MMA events in Russia - even when there's a schedule conflict with UFC...
I'd like to see a Fedor - Brock Lesnar match-up... Fedor no doubt is a more skillful technician and would probably win, but I think Lesnar's power could inflict some major damage ...
UFC head honchos wouldn't be disturbed if Noguera loses to Heath Herring. Herring (like "Rampage" Jackson) has some charisma that can help popularize the sport among the general public... |
