We are making a non-profit low-budget independent movie related to the ESL industry. As you may already know, low-budget movies require extra help from passionate people. We require several actors to play various roles. We need actors of various ethnic backgrounds.

Why should I join?

1)You have 1 or two days from your weekend to commit to the project
2)You have some acting experience or do have a desire to try acting
3)You like to meet new people and have fun

No really, why should I join? Do I get any other benefits?

1)You will get free food and drink
2)You will have the satisfaction of participating in a movie production
3)You will have amazing memories that will last a lifetime.

The production will start sometime after July 20th through August. It will primarily will be filmed on Saturday or Sunday.

If you are interested or have any additional questions, please PM me.

If you know you want to join, please let me know the following information:

Name?
Where you live?
Your available times?
Any acting experience?

P.S. Of course if people are just interested not acting, but being a part of the crew, you are more than welcome to help out. We always need helpers or people with some technical talent.

Is this a movie about foreigners getting drunk, singing offensive songs on the subway, chasing Korean puntang, doing drugs and having AIDS? Laughing

If i was going to get paid for it maybe ok.. But to try and go through the hassle of having to fill out paperwork and spend my money and convince my boss to let me do it.. Just seems like a pain in the arse.

But I am with you the topics you listed would be pretty interesting to see again.

Oh stop it. You aren't getting paid, you aren't "working", immi has nothing to say. Stop posting this crap (I.e., getting deported for pet projects, etc).

Don't bring up the Busan 9 because the whole issue with them was that money was exchange for that play.

And that fact they publicly made fun of Korean (and Western) culture. Even after the money was shown not to have gone into foreign hands, they were still under investigation. While immi isn't currently out to get volunteers, do you really want to trust them, especially if you are honest and say something negative about Korea in a movie?

Well according who you talk to and I guess what immi officer you get that day it doesnt matter if you get paid or not.. It doesnt matter if you volunteer or not you are technically still under violation and can get busted. And somewhere around here I do believe I have read and heard of several people having such things done to them.

Unless your flying with the golden ticket (F5) I wouldnt take a chance on it. I mean do you really want to take that chance?

You call it crap I call it the truth and reality. You know anything a foreigner does in or about Korea is going to be under the microscope sooner or later.

I'm the first to admit I know little about Korean immigration, but I know utter bullsh*t when I read it. Are you honestly trying to say that no foreigner in Korea can do anything but sleep, eat, and teach without getting deported? When I get there, will I be allowed to walk down the street, take in a show, do some shopping without getting deported?

Or are you just trying to say that you can get deported only for the types of things that people regularly get paid for, even if you are not getting paid for them and are doing them for fun? So can I take pictures of things? People often get paid for photography... Can I dance and/or sing? There are many paid singers and dancers... How about writing, can I write? There are professional drivers, so can foreigners drive?? What exactly are you trying to say here??

Everything in Korea depends on who you talk to. By the letter of the law, sure. This all stems from the play people put on in Busan that made fun of Korea. The actors were volunteers. They did sell tickets.

There was a story here a while back about a boss who literally expected his whitey to be at home when he was not in school, on the odd chance he needed him to come into school. The idiot director couldn't imagine a person might need to do shopping and entertain himself on his off hours.

There are a lot of grey areas. If you have a blog and have google ads, earning income, are you in violation? Immi has already gone on record saying volunteering at an orphanage needs approval. But poetry clubs are okay. Is making a video for youtube with your friends like a poetry club or like the Busan play? Is making an amateur film like a poetry club or like the Busan play.

What about a podcast? God. All I know is we vary the location on the odd event someone over hears us and decides a) we're not saying 100% wonderful things about Korea b) reports us to the authorities.

Is immi going to show up on the day you film? How would they know? The Busan play had regular posted times.

What he said.. It all depends on who you talk to.. Just saying do your homework and be aware of what your getting into. Immi is a funny bunch of people and they change their minds in seconds. One guy posted that they told him he couldnt play his guitar in the park even if just practicing because that could be viewed as a public performance. Is it BS sure you bet.. Just letting people especially newer people know dont be to eager to jump into something without knowing what the hell your jumping into.

This is not employment or volunteering for an organization. Consider it a club activity; not paid or unpaid work..

If you are truly spooked about the people on this board creating an unnecessary fear about immigration coming to punish those who do any sort of club or volunteer activity then we certainly do not require your real name.

Actually, anyone who is truly paranoid about immigration please stay away and enjoy your fear bubble.

The core team are experienced filmmakers and have produces many movies. We are non-profit and certainly we want to stress amateur movie makers. We do it because it is more like a hobbyand it is fun.

Also, in no way are our movies negative towards Korean culture or people and we avoid any potential public backlash to our productions. Our movies are made to be enjoyed by both Koreans and foreigners.

P.S. This movie is not a movie about fan death.
