When I was in Korea 10 years ago, it was expensive to mail things from the U.S., but not prohibitive. I went to the U.S. Postal site and the only options they offer for packages are Priority Mail ($35 for four pounds) or Express Mail - much more.

How do you have things mailed to you from the U.S.?

Thanks!

You don't, not anymore, thank you very much U.S. Postal Service.

Consider Priority Mail Flat Rate envelopes or boxes, and don't send and dried whole eggs.

Me, I'll be lugging three suitcases packed to the limit on my next trip. It's just cheaper than using the mail these days.

Do they no longer offer surface (boat) mail? Its been a couple of years since I used it, but it was quite reasonable.

Global priority mail, flat rate should only be around 13 bucks, but that is only a smaller sized box, like 11 by 13 inches. That cannot be over 4 pounds.

Economy air mail is another option and is charged by the weight.

Surface mail is the cheapest option but goes by boat so it is slow.

If you buy express mail guaranteed (if they have that for south korea), if it doesn't get to you in the time alotted you can get a refund for the entire amount. And it probably won't get there so you'd get your money back if you risked it.

Please tell me where surface mail is an option? And there was a thread about this change in policy back in May, I believe....

Just use another service...USPS, UPS, FEDEX, and DHL are not the only services available. Open up that phone book and work it out....

oh wow, it appears that "On May 14 2007, the United States Postal Service eliminated the International Surface Mail service from their mailing options. " (http://www.petitiononline.com/USPSISM/petition.html)

Why you would go to petitiononline.com to find that information I don't know, but yes, it's been that way several months. All for the better, I believe as Priority Mail flat rate boxes are quite economical now. It is $37 USD for up to TWENTY POUNDS, not the "four pounds" as stated by the OP.

http://www.usps.com/

click on "calculate postage", people

Naturally, if you're shipping over umm.. something heavier, like a refrigerator, you may need to rethink it..
