I found this to be an interesting read, but I don't know the magazine or the author so am not sure of its credentials. If you know something about the journal and its writer I would be interested to hear more. Otherwise just enjoy the read or dont and then discuss.

Hardly an impartial author, and I think he had made up his mind before he even began researching the article. Thus, I consider it more op-ed than academia.
Anyway, a couple of things struck me. First of all, his emotive language (wistful Jewish prayers) and misleading facts detract from his argument. For example, Jerusalem itself does not appear in the Koran, but Noble Sanctuary/Temple Mount does. Thus to say Jerusalem is referred to in the Koran as frequently as in Hindu, Buddhist, etc works is a wee bit cheeky. Furthermore, he inflates the Jewish case by counting Jerusalem and Zion, but then states Zion can also mean Land of Israel. He both broadens and narrows the yardstick in respect to the frequency in which the Talmud and Koran mention Jerusalem to lend weight to his argument. He is not consistent.
Still, I agree with some of his argument. Jerusalem is more important to Jews than it is Muslims. And its importance has been overplayed by Muslim countries for political gains. However, while less important to Muslims when compared to Mecca or Medina, it is still very important. By taking a zero sum game approach toward Jerusalem, he finds himself guilty of the same thing he criticises Muslim states for. |

Would someone please change the topic to something more descriptive than "Interesting Read"? |
