I've got five days off in mid-august, and figured it'd be a nice chance to get out of the country.
i really want to see bangkok, but i am concerned because it will be wet season there. has anybody been there mid august? would it be worth waiting until a dryer season?
i'm not really worried if it rains a couple days, but i would want a couple days of at least partly-sunny skies to enjoy my vaca-- i'm just excited to get the f*ck out of here for a couple days. any advice appreciated. thanks. |

Chiang Mai is another Thailand option that might be a little better during the rainy season than Bangkok. I like the area near the Tapae wall (Mun Muang Rd...)
It'll rain most every afternoon in both cities, but there's more chance of flooding in Bangkok, while comparitively quaint Chiang Mai is near cool mountains.
But then again, Bangkok has a good subway system ...
Maybe two days in Bangkok and three in Chiang Mai (about an hour flight...)
Thailand reportedly is OK year round except for the "hot season" April through June...
Actually, after checking the Lonely Planet websites , it seems that Bangkok gets lots of tourists in August, but there were terrorist bombings at the airport not that long ago. While martial law from the military coup was lifted in Bangkok, it's still in effect in Chiang Mai - which apparently also may get heavier rain in August than Bangkok...
