And another thing Guri Gaijin Guy:
You're comparing apples and oranges as to the government response to this issue in Korea and China.
The Chinese government is autocratic and the one party rule demands that patriotic education remind its citizens of the Japanese war crimes. You cannot assert with fairness therefore that the average Chinese citizen dwells on this issue.
Now in Korea, that excuse doesn't fly. |

Thank you Sino-Steve. (Just kidding)
You are correct Mr. Garrett. China and Korea are two different situations.
I certainly do feel enormous sympathy for China in that Japan invaded them and caused a lot of misery and suffering. Japan has owned up to it and apologized many times. They have also paid enormous compensation to China which in no small part have helped China become the growing economic powerhouse it is today. I do think that a proper study of Nanjing should be done however by a neutral third party. Just my opinion of course.
I certainly don't blame the average Chinese citizen. I mean, even their internet is censored so how could they even see the other side of the story? (even if it was false)
As far as Korea goes, I think the Colonial period is not understood well at all. If Koreans were to "open the history books" like the Uri party promised to do, you'd see a vastly different story than what is being passed as history today. I'd like to see more objectivity in Korea as it is a democracy apparently. Mind you "Japan lovers" can get their property seized I have heard.
I am sorry that we don't see eye to eye on this issue but I do respect your opinion and I can understand where you are coming from. I am generally in agreement with your opinions on other threads. Peace. |

Incorrect. China's growing economic powerhouse was mainly due to the Chinese government lifting restrictions on capitalist behaviour and the cheap labour which enabled them to undersell many competitors.
In fact Japan did not pay compensation. They did assist China with foreign aid in exchange for the government dropping the compensation claims. However they did so with a eye to making money (see the 11th paragraph in the link below)

The Japs did the favor of helping Korea to build up. Just like many people see the Americans are doing in Iraq. Funny thing, some Iraqis are opposed to that favor.
Japan was the only country I can think of, that had one of its government agencies pimping.
I think the base of the problem is the Japanese suffering from TDS. Also known as tiny d1ck syndrome. |

contrarian: I've generally agreed with you on previous posts in CE but you've lost some of my respect with the obvious hate-on you have for Japan. "Jap'' is indeed a slur and for that matter so is TDS.
Regarding a re-evaluation of Korean history as mentioned above, I think it'll be a cold day in hell when the Koreans do what the French eventually did: face up to the fact that a large percentage of the population collaborated actively with the occupiers. |

My problem with the Japense from Japan is the insufferable arrogance and thier seeming belief that they are a superior people in every way.
They feel quite willing to refer to me as a gaijin - babarian - but expect respect and politeness from me. That does not compute. It leaves me with a compulsion to confront that attittude in a hrash way.
It is also a somewhat unusual reaction for me. In my years in Canada and in the US I had close Japanese friends, including two married to cousins of mine. I am a Mormon and was a councillor to a Japanese Canadian Bishop.
These people did not seem to be cursed with the same cuotural arrogance as the few native Japanese I have met. |

Gord(Gord? Where in the hell are you now, man?!) is basically right. "Gaijin" is informal, i.e., the polite form is "gaikokojin" or "outside country person". The Japanese term for "barbarian" or "wild country person" is "yabanjin".
If ya wanna slag the "Japs", contrarian, at least get the lexicon straight. |

"Jap" is a racial slur. Using racial slurs does not lend any credibility to your argument Contrarian, contrary to what you might think.

A widespread research done by Dr. Gomez de Diego, director of the medical company Andromedical specialised in andrology, in 2001, took into consideration several studies by physicians of different nationalities. He concluded that the average erect *beep* size for adult men is 14 cm, confirming the aforementioned research carried out by Dr Eduardo Gomez de Diego. The studies of average erect *beep* length conducted on adult men worldwide included France 16 cm, Italy 15 cm, Mexico 14.9 cm, Germany 14.48 cm, Japan 13.0 cm, Saudi Arabia 12.4 cm, Brazil 12.4 cm, India 10.2 cm and South Korea 9.6 cm.

This is indeed true and, besides, GG, when have you ever known any East Asian government to give money to its neighbors purely for altruistic reasons?
contrarian:
If you think Japanese are arrogant, you should meet some of the local Japanese Americans in Hawaii. Jeez, they don't call Honolulu "Little Tokyo" for nothing. |

DotA world tour. This week, Australia. Last month, Korea, Japan, Canada. Later this month, Korea, China.
The list of where the games were played on the back of my official shirt was rather lacking. Children were laughing at me when it said "my store, my home on the laptop." |
