I have read in more than one place that men (and sometimes even women!) will often pee in the street in Korea. It seems odd since I have heard that Koreans are very careful about covering up their bodies that they would just whip out their genitals in public, but now I have read it so much, I have to ask...
It sure would be nice to finally be free of the tyranny of toilets!  |

you can pee in the street in most countries if the cops aren't around
but it doesn't mean you should
korea is full of great little backalleys to pee up if you get caught short |

| Yes. I have many times. In the afternoon with families walking by. Then I finish my beer, crush the can, and throw it at a garbage bag. Doesn't faze anyone. |

| Dogs are allowed to do number 1 and number 2. (Your owner should clean up your number 2) I've heard that until the 1980's, Korean humans would routinely do number 2 in the street. I don't have any proof that the claims are true, although it was a Korean woman that told me it was commonplace. |

| Your question should be "is it legal?" As most things in Korea are, there is, I'm sure, a law against it somewhere. However, I challenge you to get a Korean cop to enforce it. I've seen guys do left on red (deep, deep, turned 10 seconds ago red) right in front of a cop without him even batting an eye. |

| I peed on a tree on a busy main street in Melbourne once. It was in the middle of a storm, and all the rushing water made me desperate to go. If I hadn't done that I would have peed myself. Nobody said anything. |

Just don't pee on the street in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Cops will routinely pick up drunks for "public urination" because they can't pick them up for being drunk on the street, since it's legal to drink outside during Mardi Gras. I had a friend spend two nights in the New Orleans slammer because of this. |

Yes, I have heard these arrests are quite common as well, although many many people do it in New Orleans (in the French Quarter), even not during Mardi Gras. This is because there are a large amount of bars in this area that do not have public restrooms (most do not even have much seating as they expect you to get your drink and stumble back onto the street). And for the record, it is legal to drink outside in Louisiana, Mardi Gras or not! I know it is hard to believe there are still places like that here in the land of the totalitari- err, I mean free. |
