The "I am an American" commercial showing that Americans come from a variety / diversity of backgrounds... The commercial shows different races and ethnicities saying "I am an American" one by one.....
Are they going to show an illegal alien from Mexico crossing the border saying, "I am an American" in Spanish? Considering there are 7 million illegal aliens in the USA that would be appropriate....

My favorite one is the Swiffer Sweepers commercial.
Swiffer Sweepers is a great product that young children wear like pajamas. The kids slide around on the floor and swiff up all the dust bunnies. Are these only available at the PX?
Guess the English word of the day...
Originally, in India, loose drawers or trousers, such as those worn, tied about the waist, by Mohammedan men and women; by extension, a similar garment adopted among Europeans, Americans, etc., for wear in the dressing room and during sleep; also, a suit consisting of drawers and a loose upper garment for such wear.
If you guessed pajamas...
You are right!

My all-time favorite is one that used to air when I first got here seven years ago:
"When you get up in the night, be sure to turn on a light so you can see where you're going..."
What the hell? Was there a sudden rash of midnight-pee related injuries?
And what kind of an image does this give to non-military watching? Yeah, we're afraid of them ...they hurt themsleves peeing in the night. |

That Mexican national is not a US citizen and that is what the commercial is about . Amazing how many Koreans and Taiwanese called themselves Chinese and Koreans when they are US citizens (Americans) It is accepted practice to refer to ourselves by our nationality not race. |

Hey Fonz,
Swiffer Sleepers are Real. It's true!
My new favorite is the one where the kids say stuff like:
Today I killed a judge.
I helped a terrorist get a passport.
I bought some explosives.

Me too. I just love when she's laughing and throws the money up in the air in slow motion. |

My three favorites were:
THE ANTHRAX NINJA! Hilariously bad and dunderheaedly racist.
The shot-on-film adverts about not divulging classified information. The guy dines with a babe in a restaurant ala CASABLANCA and viola: national security foiled!
The one where one soldier steals anothers stuff.
The old "loud stereo ones were a blast as well.
I LOVED AFN and their PSAs.The PSAs were the only reason to watch!
If Edward D. Wood, Jr. were alive today hed be in charge of the AFN PSAs!
Cheers,
Joe |

My favourite was always 'Don't make a beer bottle a weapon'. Ah yes, good ol' AFN. Too bad I can't get it where I am now. For some reason I can't get that channel here. Oh well. Now where will I turn for words of wisdom? Well, I'm off to fight with a vending machine. |

It sounds as lame as the Canadian Molson adverts with MY name is Joe and I am a Canadian, later complimented by the one featuring all manner of "beautiful modeling agent flunkies waxing poetic about how great it is to be Canadian and what they do and don't do while AMEIRCAN punks The Ramones Blitzkreig Bop blares in the background!
Of course, this all started with the one where a lovable Canadian who cant get work in his own country starts his American job; one of his American co-workers (with clear Canadian aboat pronunciation) taunts him about hockey and igloos. Then came Joe.
Theres nothing like nationalistic p e n i s envy wrapped up in cultural insecurity to make for good entertainment.
A Korean example: "Buy Korea" adverts from '98-2000. Swarms of Hangook sonder commando salary men waving flags in a beautifully green field as an almost North Korean-like propagandist voice mumbles off and urges national support to help the economy through "Buy Korea."
Cheers,
Joe |

I think AFN is American propaganda at it's finest. The "code of conduct" one is a prime example... |

I absolutely love the "Moped Safety" commercial. I like the way they check to see if he has everything he needs. I don't know why but I laugh everytime I see it (I don't see it all that often). It's ridiculous but hey, anything that amuses me I consider gold.

what about that one with the safety tips for kids. It starts off talking about 'dolphin tips' (I think), then ends with some sort of BOYBEE acronym thing. The kids reciting the tips look soooo excited about what they're doing- especially the one 'whitey' who rolls his eyes at the end. |
