I was going through a green turn signal when the car in front of me was half way through and then threw on their brakes for no reason. I rammed the back and flew off of my bike into the middle of the intersection. I had blood on my pants and my face. The lady stopped next to me and the kid in her backseat looked at me and said, "waygook saram" Then she put the car in gear and drove off. On-coming traffic then proceeded to drive around me and one guy even honked. But not one person stopped to help me. I am in total shock

Were you injured? Sounds to me like they decided you wouldn't know what to do and escaped. Did you get their licence number?

sorry to hear that. what does sarem mean? also we all have to be quick about our wits and try to get a license number. I know after the shock of it all makes it difficult but man I hear so many stories about these types of things happening.
Reminds me of a service member (I hate using the term GI) that hit a korean women and fled. The women remembered part of the plate and was able to track him down and report him. Shame on the Service member for leaving. ... wow.. was that a rant on my part.. I forgot my point...

oh well I hope you are ok...

Contact the cops. Lots of intersections have traffic cams, and you might be able to track down the person and get a good chunk of change.

It would have been your fault if she had stopped because you hit her in the back.

Be thankful you are ok and don't have anything more than a few cuts and bruises.

How is the bike?

yeah, I was thinking the same thing. As a general principal the person who rear ends another would be at fault. She could claim she was stopping for a safety reason that you did not see. A kid in her line of sight looked like he was going to step out into the street..anything she could think of and a traffic cam would not resolve it. You could end up paying for any damage to her car.

I am sorry that it happened to youhope you are ok.

I was thinking more along the lines of failure to give aid and information, leaving the scene of an accident, etc. I'm pretty sure they have those laws on the books here as well.

Seems to me you were driving to close to the car in front of you since you couldn't successfully stop and hit the rear, lucky they didn't stop to get money for the car damage.

It's your fault!!!!

The car in front doesn't indicate. It's your fault.

The car in front has no brake lights. It's your fault.

The dumb ass adjuma is wapping on her cell phone. It's your fault.

In Korea, the way it works is this.

It doesn't matter what dumb ass illegal boneheaded move the person in front makes.

It's up to the person behind to avoid them, that's how the law/police operate.

That's why every one speeds. If you are the guy in front, no matter what happens it's never your fault.

This rule however does not apply to foreigners. It's your fault for being here (similar to Thailand)

Actually, I work with a Korean attorney and when I saw this thread - I put the question to him. He said that it's not 100% the guys fault who hits from behind and that several factors can determine the outcome - including but not limited to: How hard and sudden did the biatch hit her brakes? Witnesses would be a big help.

And the fact that the other driver left the scene.

I was in an accident in January and the police arrested the guy for fleeing the scene. The accident went 10% my fault and 90% his, but as I settled without them, the police let it go. Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime here.

Welcome to Korea, dude. If they don't know you personally, you are nothing in their eyes. Sad, but true.

On page 52 of the driver's manual it says
"Prohibition of sudden sudden stop" under
"How to Stop Safely"
It may not be your fault.

Page 116 of the English driver's manual.
15 points for leaving the scene.
15 points for no aid but "voluntary reporting afterwards."
30 within 3 hours
60 3-48 hours
It does not give the number of points if they wait more
than 48 hours or never report.

If I'm reading this right you can get 75 points on their license.

p. 119 says something about not taking "proper rescue steps"
under Criminal Punishment.

P. 122 - 123 talks about the "special law on traffic accident".

Ouch. But always leave room, expecting the car ahead to suddenly stop.
