Took them about a good year and a half to rejig the machines but it seems the t-money recharging station in subways are now taking the new bills. They may have not got to all of them yet but they're finally getting off their ass. No more trying to find bank machines that spit out the old 10,000 bill. (I hate dealing with people when I could deal with a machine.) |

And on a related T-Money note, the gf went on vacation a couple days ago and said that the airport buses now accept T-Money cards. I'm going to test it on Saturday and see if she's right. |

T-Money sucks. They work fine in Seoul but out in Gyeonggi-do, there are buses that don't take it.
I use eB/UPass. The airport buses, gyeonggido buses, Seoul Buses, and Seoul Subway all use it. |

T-money works ok on the gyeonggido buses that I use ... but I do know that you are in a different area to me ... Not working on buses would be a pain.
I prefer using T-money to cash both because it is cheaper (by a small amount) but also because I find it much easier on the subway ... Even though I can know accurately pronounce the names of where I want to go ... it was difficult in my early days here ... because not pronouncing them correctly ... makes it hard to buy tickets there ...

Don't recharge your T-Money card with more than 10,000 won at a time.
I got robbed 2 weeks ago. My card had about 6,000 won on it. When I tried to use it, the subway gates gave the an ERROR message. I also checked it in the re-charger machine and got the same. In the end, I took it to the subway guy and had it re-charged with 10,000 won.
I don't know how it got erased - maybe static electricity.
Be careful. |

Sorry to hear you got robbed.
If I only recharged 10,000 won at a time, I'd have to charge it twice a week, sometimes three times a week. No way. |

I heard from a friend of mine that the reason the machines weren't taking the new bills was so the govt could collect and get the old bills out of circulation. I don't know if he is right or not, but it seems to make sense. |

The signs about the new notes said the old ones weren't going to be taken out of circulation. |

I agree. Those cards are not very robust. Only charge it up as much as you're willing to lose. |

Yeah, usually they just let the old bills drop out naturally from wear and tear. |
