anyone advise how much a w/e to japan might cost.
got a few cheeky days off i hadn't expected, so i'd like to get out of korea.
interested in a cheap & cheerful cultural injection.
can someone also advise if i can get multiple entry visa if i get the boat, or do i have to do that at the airport?

Make sure you budget for transportation and make sure you book a hotel in advance if you want to stay someplace affordable, unless the capsule hotels are your style.

I don't know what the exchange rate is like right now, but when I was in Japan it cost five or six USD just to get into a cab, and the subway was three bucks a ticket.

You can only get a MULTI re-entry permit AT the LOCAL immigration office.
You CANNOT get a multi re-entry permit anywhere else.

Bus to Busan, ferry to Japan and only 3 days? Not really do-able. You will spend 2 of your 3 days in transit.

If you want to do it figure about 200k per day + travel to/from Japan on a short stay and you could do it reasonably comfortably.

You can squeeze by on <100k per day but you'll spend all your time looking for a cheap room, cheap restaurants, and cheap beer and won't have time to do much of anything else.

What city was that in? When I was in Tokyo, subway tickets started at about $1.30US (160 yen) a ticket to start. Plus, you can get a 2 day open ticket for 980 yen, so about $9US. In fact, it is near impossible to go up to $3US. Up to 40km is just 300 yen, so under $3US.

I was in japan for 10 days last april. Including railpass (about 250 bucks I believe) I spent right about $1,000. I stayed at cheap places but found them easily on the internet before i left, cheap restaurants are everywhere, and I drank all kinds of beer. A couple of my meals weren't at budget places.

I also saw plenty in the places I visited (Tokyo, kyoto/nara, hiroshima/miyajima, himeji).

That being said, I admit it is a bit harder to follow that budget when you're only there 2-3 days and you can't use a rail-pass.
