Hi,

Can I extend my tourist Visa (actually not a visa, just a stamp) in-country? I had a job, ended in May, came back on a tourist visa (USA), and it expires Saturday. I have a job lined up finally, but not til next week. Can I go to Immigration, explain, and get a few days added on to my tourst 'stamp?'

Or will I be stuck going to Japan Friday, then have to go again next week when the school processes my papers?

Thanks

You can drop into an immigration office, fill in an application and pay the VISA fee and get the additional 60 days that a C3 tourist visa would have had.

I think you need to take a passport type photo as well.

OK, I hope so. I will go to the Immi office tomorow, and try to cancel my $400 flight after on your advice...god help me, as I know how busy the Immi offices tend to be...

You can do this assuming you are an American. They only get 30 days initially upon arrival in Korea.

In case anyone else needs to extend a tourist visa, you have to do it at least 3 days before your tourist visa expiration date. I happened to sign up for this website a day too late (actually I registered a week ago to ask this question but Dave Sperling just approved me a few days ago). So I'm outta luck, and have to go to Japan costing me 400,000 instead of 30,000 won extension had I gotten on the ball earlier.[/url]

You should try to get it extended anyhow. I had my tourist visa extended a day before the 30 days was up.
