I didn't opt for the tutor support and received all of my units at once as well. Had a bit of a problem with the CD (arrived broken) but was given a website where I could download the video...don't know why they didn't just tell me that to begin with.
I still have all of my materials, so if anyone is curious let me know. The only downside to not having a tutor is that the final test took me about four hours to complete. However, I was informed of my "grade' within 12 hours of submitting my test. I needed a copy of my certificate for my recruiter, so they were kind enough to email a .pdf of it until my real one arrived in the mail about two weeks later.
I wouldn't say I learned a lot (had years of teaching under my belt already, as well as some grad courses in TESOL), but it was a good refresher course.
One more thing, the final exam isn't difficult, just time consuming as you have to explain everything in detail, i.e. think of two lessons for teaching the present continuous to a group of beginner students--and you have to do lesson plans for each tense. |

Holy Shiite!!!! When I was on their wonderful website it was never explained to me that I could get all of them at once by paying less!!!!!
Had I known I would have booted my worthless tutor and got the rest of them all at once. The tutor was more of a negative than a positive and when I complained about 2 units at a time I was told this was to assure that I spent enough time on each unit to justify the 100 hours and don't just rush through them. Jizzo's post blows the heck out of that rationale!!!
I am sorry but I have tried to be honest about my experience and , if this is true, I am really steamed and don't recomend those a$$holes for a TEFL anymore!!!!!!!!!
Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhh! I need a drink! |

There is a great need for honesty in advertising if it is proper to say that...What people discover in time is that some courses promoting their self as upright and honest are neither upright or honest...This is why there needs to be a change in the system to make it more difficult for companies to set up when their only desire is to make a quick buck from people who place their trust in them... Bear, wondering and Jizzo have all pointed this out with clarity...It isn't that online instruction is lacking in quality or delivery, but when bad people do bad things it makes it bad all the way around...Plenty of people who already read this forum post have made good points with regard to what it takes to produce a quality program that can be trusted... |

Ahhhhh.... What's better than doing a professional development course for 200K pay raise while on a 4 week vacation on a beach front resort. |

WHAT A GREAT IDEA! I could have done my course while laying on the white sand beach in Koh Chang, Thailand sipping Singha beers. Brilliant!
So where is your beachfront? |

Nha Trang, Vietnam. I'll be sipping on my cold and iced Saigon beer. |

Thinking about it, I was wondering which is better Nam or Thailand for vacationing, and would a person have fast enough Internet speed to do their work from there...? |

Nice guest houses in Vietnam and Thailand have high speed Internet connections. Some places even have wireless Internet connections.
I prefer vacationing in Vietnam because it's much less touristic than Thailand. |

If you are traveling make sure to check out the access speed as this will affect your ability to work in some areas where the Internet is dial up only... |

Hmmm,I'm planning on doing the bulk of mine as I'll be in Thai for the most of next month. Can't I just download all the packets here and throw them on my laptop and do them in Thai or is it more complicated than that? |

Some email correspondence courses give you that option and the same is true regarding the unit material which can be exported for viewing and printing from you computer, so that would not be a problem...This is one of the big things people look for...Are there options for me to view the materials completely online, and can I have the option of storing the information on my PC so I can view it and/or print it off the have a hard copy...In an email correspondence course that is the only option, but in a truly online course it is simply one of the options for the users... |

I got a 120 hour online TESL just for the heck of it. I had a 60-hour in 1996, but that seemed to be getting long in the tooth.
Another paper to pad the portfolio. I learned one or two things from the research I did for it. It wasn't hard and I could have made it much easier than I did, but I didn't want to waste my time completely doing it.
It was cheap, did it quickly and Koreans seem to like seeing it. |

How was the format...email correspondence or was it truly online? That is the problem with the vast majority of so-called online courses they are not online...they are send you the download file to your email, you download and open your Word Processor, do the work, save the file, go to your email account and upload the file and send it off, waiting for people on the other end to read, grade or whatever they do to say you have passed or not...A waste of time that could be spent on actual learning in the web-class. |

I had to watch lectures (1 per module) and send in videos (DVDs) of my classes. 2 classes anyways. There was of course an e-mail portion as well. I thought it was alright and I had a good instructor. |

What was the turn around time on receiving feedback and/or grades for the work you were doing? |
