Anyone know some really lovely spots to pitch a tent and have some peace?

I'm looking for an area, at most, 2 hours or so outside of Seoul. Anything in the woods and close to water (river, pond, waterfall) is a huge plus. Beaches are great, too. I think the most important thing, though, is the peace. I don't want to be in a line of tents next to a bunch of people cooking bulgogi on their portable gas stoves.

Thanks for any advice. Smile

Gangwondo has plenty of nice quiet places off the beaten track. Starting in Hongchon and traveling along the 44 or 46, then shooting off on some small country road will often yield some good results. Personally, I've camped around Inje quite a few times and know some cool places near waterfalls / mountain streams. After Hongchon, take the 56 off the 44 towards Seosok, and branch off on the 31 or continue along the 56. The smaller country roads are a gold mine of secluded mountain areas for camping alongside nice streams. More than 2 hours from Seoul however.

Edit: once you hit Seosok on the 56, shoot down the 19 towards Heongsong. Lots of nice camping less than 10 kms from Seosok in secluded mountain valleys; some places are more popular, but there are nice quiet spots as well. That would take you about 2 hours from Seoul.
