Wow, if that's true it's really horrible. Some people really have a hate on for little kids. Every now and again I catch a glimpse of that sort of intolerance (though fortunately nothing coming even close to that level) and I just wonder why. Small kids never bothered me one iota, even before I had mine. It seems far more prevelant in Anglo-Saxon society too.

I know I don't normally post negative comments but really, what you've said is one of the most offensive things to say to a parent.

Teach your children well

You, who are on the road,
Must have a code that you can live by.
And so, become yourself,
Because the past is just a good bye.
Teach your children well,
Their father's hell did slowly go by.
And feed them on your dreams,
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

And you, of tender years,
Can't know the fears that your elders grew by.
And so please help them with your youth,
They seek the truth before they can die.
Teach your parents well,
Their children's hell will slowly go by.
And feed them on your dreams,
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.......

But seriously, I wonder if the mother was telling the truth in this case. It doesn't sound like reality. Not normal.

In other words, in my humble opinion....

Woooooooaaahhhh tzechuk lettin loose!! First time I've seen you break your rule!

So anyway, about the story, I think the lady was being rude and inconsiderate. "I'm not going to drug my child so you have a pleasant flight." Give me a break. DRUG her baby? So overly dramatic. But then, so was the action taken against her. It's not like it was a transatlantic flight.

19 months isn't REALLY REALLY a baby. It's young but I wouldn't personally say baby.

If the baby was CRYING, then I could action being taken, but if the baby is just saying "bye bye plane" over and over? Please. That's ridiculous.

Not really overly dramatic. There was ABSOLUTELY no point in giving that kid ANY medication.

If my kid were perfectly healthy and someone suggested I give my kid drugs, I'd probably make the same claim.

Even at my age, I wouldn't take extra strength tylenol for no reason at all.

That's taking it a little far.
There are far more offensive things that could be said and I think you know it.
I've been on many flights that are 12 hours or more, and having a screaming child when you and everyone else on board wants sleep is one of the most annoying things...even to a parent.

It's called parenting. If you can't control your child, that's your own da.mn fault. Other people shouldn't have to suffer due to this lady's inability to control her child.

"I will not drug my child so you can have a pleasant flight"

Now that is an intelligent thing for the mother to say. That tells me she has no intention of quieting the kid. Maybe if she had done her job instead of shooting off her mouth she would have made it to Oklahoma.

I like kids.
I hate incapable parents.

So I suppose if the kid was wearing one of these

You'd be happy? It's a kid for christ's sake. What right did the flight attendant have to tell her to drug her kid? She's a flight attendant, if she isn't used to crying or noisy kids by now, she's in the wrong business!

Why do some people with children think that they have the right to make the rest of us miserable?

If your child is screaming in your own home, that's your business.

If your child is screaming on a 12-hour flight, you have the obligation to at least try to quiet him or her down. If you try and fail, then that's OK, but too many parents don't even try or simply go through the motions.

People who procreate do not have more rights that those who don't.

So "children should be seen and not heard"?
I am sure that there are times when children want to say "adults should be seen and not heard."

Before I came to Korea, I met a couple who had just gotten back from Korea.
They told me that the whole country revolves around children--there are day care centers, piano studios, art studios, English schools, and karate schools everywhere. Furthermore, children in restaurants are allowed to climb under the furniture and visit other restaurant patrons.

I said, "Oh, really? Sounds just like my kind of place!"
I wasn't disappointed, either.
That's one reason why I have been here for 7 years.
