I can't believe how long this thread has gone on. One good thing though. Five more posts and the number will be 666. That's gotta spook stupidinscarlet. Let's get to 666 then stop. :D There's really nothing else to say to Christian ignorance, stupidness and superstition. Let them waste their lives if they so wish.
That is not the number of the Beast. The actual number is 616. It was originally mistranslated and now 666 has just stuck.

Speaking of numerical silliness, I hope you all had a happy Friday the thirteenth.
You know where the unlucky properties of the number 13 come from?
There were 12 major deities in Norse mythology.
The early Christians did not believe that the gods of other religions did not exist, but rather that they were evil.
They believed that there was a conference between the 12 Norse gods and Satan, making a total of 13.

Not all Christians are Fundamentalists. BTW, Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Kim Jong Il and Mao were all atheist socialists.

Some bad people were atheists? Wow, you really got me there. Atheism MUST be bad! Then again, christians have had a fond habit of buring alive people they didn't like for many hundreds of years, and the current Bush administration with it's illegal war of collonial occupation is also driven by fundamentalist christian principles. So we can do this all day if you like, and I bet that with a bit of google time I can find more atrocities comitted in the name of christianity than atheism.

Hitler: 6 million
Pol Pot: at least 2 million
Stalin: tens of millions
Kim Jong Il: at least 2 million
Mao: 20-80million
Castro: tens of thousands
abortion holocaust: millions/year
How many people did Christians burn alive and when did this happen? It's an opinion that the war in Iraq is based on Christian principles and it's a war opposed by the Vatican. The fact that the UN considers it illegal has no bearing on if it's right or wrong. Google to your heart's content, more people were killed by atheists than religious people and Christians who kill aren't in line with the teachings of Christ.

It is debatable whether or not Hitler was a Christian.

Here are some arguments that he was a Christian:

▶ Hitler was born in a Catholic family where he attended the Catholic church and Catholic schools.

(Incidentally, Stalin was brought up in the Russian Orthodox Church and studied for the priesthood. And yet Proverbs 22:6 promises us, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.")

▶ The Nazi motto was Gott mit uns.

▶ Rudolf Hess testified that Hitler "has an unusually honourable character, full of profound kindness, is religious, a good Catholic."

▶ According to Hermann Georing, "Only a Catholic can unite Germany."

▶ When Hitler heard of the news of World War I, he "sank down on [his] knees and thanked Heaven out of the fullness of [his] heart for the favour of having been permitted to live in such a time."

▶ In 1922, Hitler said, "My feeling as a Christian points me to my Lord and Saviour as a fighter. . . As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice."

▶ In 1923, Hitler said, "The first thing to do is to rescue [Germany]from the Jew who is ruining our country . . . We want to prevent our Germany from suffering, as Another did, the death upon the Cross."

▶ In 1925, Hitler wrote in Mein Kampf, "Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord."

▶ In 1933, Hitler said, "We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out."

▶ In 1939, Hitler narrowly escaped assassination and accredited his luck to Providence.

▶ In 1941, Hitler said, "I shall remain a Catholic for ever."

For the sake of intellectual honesty, here are some arguments that he was NOT a Christian:

▶ In 1941, Hitler said, "The heaviest blow that ever struck humanity was the coming of Christianity. Bolshevism is Christianity's illegitimate child. Both are inventions of the Jew. The deliberate lie in the matter of religion was introduced into the world by Christianity."

"The reason why the ancient world was so pure, light and serene was that it knew nothing of the two great scourges: the pox and Christianity."

"When all is said, we have no reason to wish that the Italians and Spaniards should free themselves from the drug of Christianity. Let's be the only people who are immunised against the disease."

Dawkins, R. 2006. The God delusion. Boston: Houghton Mifflin: 273-277.

Darn!
Now I can't do anything with this list:

▶ Crusades: 3,600
▶ Inquisition: 50,000,000
▶ Hundred Years War: 185,000
▶ fighting in Ireland: 400
▶ Salem witch trials: 140

Here I thought Christians have killed more than fifty million people,
and now I find out that they weren't true Christians!

We'll have to practice the no-true-Scotsman argument until we can recite it as smoothly as they can.
Ready, now: "Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Kim Jong Il, Mao, and Castro weren't true atheists."

Hello again, Dude Love!

If I understood Scarlet correctly, she also told us that nominal Christians who backslide or offend in any other way are not true Christians.
On pages 12, 14, and 18, I tried to get her to define "true Christian" in such a way that we could predict who can backslide and who can't.
I hope it will be less frustrating this time.

Christians would have us believe that exemplary behavior results from salvation.

In other words, salvation is the independent variable, coming first, and exemplary behavior is the dependent variable, which follows.

Before a rationally minded person could believe this, however, we would have to take a sample of people who answer an altar call and determine which ones are truly saved (the experimental group) and which ones are not (the control group).

We can hypothesize that the truly saved will become sunbeams for Jesus while the not truly saved will become corrupt TV evangelists like Benny Hinn, crooked faith healers like Peter Popoff, and defectors like me.

How should we separate the two groups?
Do the truly saved register differently on a polygraph test?
Do the truly saved emit slower brain waves?
Can the truly saved pass some sort of test which the not truly saved cannot?
Do the truly saved interpret certain Bible verses the same way Dude Love interprets them?
Or the same way Scarlet interprets them?

Amway distributors approach their prospects with the statement that "anyone can get rich selling Amway products."

You may have tried the Amway route and failed,
But if you did, it was only because you didn't try hard enough.
The fault is yours and not theirs.

In other words, the Amway company wrote an escape clause which endows their hypothesis with iron-clad unfalsifiability.

Isn't that sneaky?
I'm sure that the Christians would never pull a trick like that.
They're too honest.

Extremely convenient! But the fact is that these people DID consider themselve to be christian and to be acting on christian principles when comitting thier attrocities.

And there is no such thing as an "abortion holocaust", I've never heard anything more demented in my life.

Christians who kill are acting contrary to the teachings of Christ. The atheists I mentioned were acting consistently with their beliefs.
Hitler was baptized Catholic but did not consider himself Catholic or respect the Vatican. Read Mein Kampf (it'll take patience).
A holocaust is death on a massive scale, typically by burning. Millions of people are aborted in their mothers' wombs yearly. Sometimes they're injected with a saline solution, which gives them a burning feeling. But in all fairness, fine, they're not killed by burning.

Absolutely wrong, there is nothing whatsoever in the atheist belief system that says killing lots of people is ok.

Hitler and Mao were not consciously acting "in the name of atheism" when doing their attrocities, but the crusaders and members of the inquisition and the salem witch trial people WERE acting on thier religious belief.

Abortion is not murder, an unborn baby is not a citizen. It's a woman's right to chose what to do with that, not the state, not a non existant god, and not ignorant hicks like you who talk to thier imaginary friend in the sky.

No, not quite enough said actually, as I`m far from an ignorant hick. And unless you`d like to somehow show a quote or two from me that screams "ignorant hick" we`ll have to chalk your post down to a nice try but no cigar.

Your ignorance is clouded to you by your arrogance and sadly it seems that you cannot see it. I don't have to prove anything. People can just look at your posts on this thread to make their own assessment as I did. Your close-minded hatred, personal attacks and arrogant and pretentious adamant refusal to engage in any intelligent dialogue towards adherents of spiritual beliefs (especially Christians) says it all. I don't have to prove anything, especially not to you.

For a guy who criticizes theists for not being able to keep an open mind you sure are living in a large glass house.

I repeat, Pot. Kettle. Black. You. Laughing
