Today, I went to a US post office to mail some clothes and books. I was told that no more boat mail only air. It cost 181.00
How can i get my winter clothes here at those prices? And I am not a size 2! |

Might it be cheaper to pay excess luggage for a 2nd suitcase? Worth checking out.
I am looking at the same issue (but sending from Japan) and have found regular shipping companies prices way out of my league so it is back to Plan A (many boxes by Post Office). At least I can use sea mail. Feel for ya. |

I use
USPS global express - more$ quicker
USPS Priority - less $ slower
Yea it costs money. Use What The Book to buy specail order English books in Korea. I'm bigger than 97% of Koreans and I have clothes, including shoes sent here regularly. I have no choice. |

Yes, it is. The price for a 3rd suitcase on Nowthwest is less than maining a box the same size/weight. |

Which airline starts its excess luggage fee at $1000? When I flew into Korea the amount I had to pay for excess luggage was based on the amount of excess weight ... not a flat fee. And knowing what I know now I would have brought more with me.
In looking at the postage cost ... It is worth looking at whether the postage cost for the items is less than the cost of buying the same items here in Korea ... While the postage cost may be high ... especially when airmail is the only option ... If it is a lot cheaper than buying the same items here in Korea (and it is something that you really need) then you are still better off mailing them here.
I had some books which I didn't bring with me ... but had always planned to have mailed to me here in Korea ... While the cost of mailing them was around $120 Australian ... that was actually a small fraction of the cost of buying the books here ... So I was still better off mailing them to myself here ...

Icicle, my point being is that if you are here already and you need things, it would not make sense to fly home for the explicit purpose of saving $30-$40 on a extra bagage fee.
If you are here now, then you are stuck with paying postage. |

| I paid to bring a third suitcase when I flew here. Since then I've used USPS or FedEx to get stuff to me from home. |

Thank you. I can know see where you are coming from .... But the OP said that they went to a US post office ... so they are not yet in Korea ... So given that they still need to fly to Korea ... the comments that we have made about excess baggage costs are relevant to the OP ...

I paid out the a--for those boxes, I have tons of winter stuff I need to have shipped cause I a short girl with enough Boobs to share with all my teachers in school..(lol that was not nice)
Anyway I am happy to share with you that it seems to depend on the airline on how much they charge for extra boxes etc.
I have hopes of sending things to friends in the Military although they are in Seoul and I am about 2 hours away, I figured I could take a big duffle bag or something like that to transport my stuff back.
other wise I will be a broke a-- sister! Which will almost defeat the purpose. i may have to stay 2 years! |
