Ok, I guess since I never really left the safety of my home office Im not really a newb, but if all goes well, I will be in SO-KO in about one month. So here's the deal, I'm American, 29, male, with BA, with some months of early childhood education experience (in Ammericorps Denver.. that explains alot). I don't speak Korean and can barely order from the taco bell menu. I do however, have a great ability to be flexible. I am the master of going with the flow, and unless something is really a-miss I won't complain. I want 2 things, I want a change, and a challenge. I miss both of these in the corporate world I was sucked into after college and the americorps. I'll come with an open mind, and with enthusiasm. I'll do my best and fulfill my contract.
Finally to the question:
I have 3 contracts on my email
each seems to have some fault (one requires every other sat, one is a wonderland school, etc).
Am I harming myself by thinking about what might develop? I am ready to go in about 1 month!

Some who post on here know Korean, but many of us only know how to say "thank you" and order some of the foods. That's it. They hire us for English, so if you can't speak Korean- no big whup.

What's the question?

Have you questioned the current teachers at those schools?
Have you asked about those schools on these forums?
Have you checked the blacklists?

If I were you, I'd be worried.

Have you posted your contracts in the contract thread to have others to look at it?

I know it's hard, but try to be patient. There are hundreds of schools that need teachers. Some of them are complete crap, some are golden. If you can be patient you'll be greatly rewarded.

Let the offers roll in, you'll get one that sounds right to you. It is tremendously easy to get a job.

Don't work Saturdays, don't share accomodation, I would recommend that you hold out on these points.

Telephone/e-mail current teachers at the school to see what they have to say(ask for this before signing a contract).

Don't be surprised if you're given very little time (one or two weeks) before the job begins.

Decide if you want to be on the Seoul subway lines or if you prefer isolated living in a small town.

Sounds like the third one's a charm.

i think the number one mistake people make is to come here on their own timetable instead of waiting until they get a decent contract.

haste makes waste and all that, you know?
